Description
In a dreary English seaside town, one of it's timid inhabitants, known as LV (Little Voice), mourns over her dead father and obsesses over his record collection by singing along to his favorite performers. Her rare talents for emulating the dulcet tones of Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe and Shirley Bassey are soon discovered by her dominant mother's boyfriend, a small-time showbiz agent. Their attempts to propel her to stardom are at first successful when the local town gets to see her perform. However, LV is soon wise to their selfish intentions and withdraws from performing again, thus forcing an emotional showdown between the three.

Having converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography.

This is a very funny but poignant story of 'Little Voice' aka LV a shy almost introverted girl (Jane Horrocks)who has developed her beautiful voice by singing along to old Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe records. Her mother Mari(Brenda Blethyn) who is LV's exact opposite thinks she has found the man of her dreams in Ray (Michael Caine)a low rate talent scout but he is only interested in making a fast buck if he could entice the timorous LV to do her stuff in the spotlight at the local working mens club with the help of club owner Mr Boo (Jim Broadbent). Ewan McGregor who plays Billy another shy and gauche character befriends LV and their awkward friendhsip is touching.
Brenda Blethyn got a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award Nomination for her acting role but certainly not for her rendition of a northern accent which is almost cringe-worthy at times.

Film Little Voice

The story while a little unbelievable in places, is still very entertaining it was brought to life by the acting ability of 'Jane Horrocks' who is a better actor than all of the big name actors whom in my opinion just say the words. And what a singing voice Jane has.

A great comedy. Michael Caine and Brenda Blethyn are superb. Not what I was expecting at all, a real treat.
