Action, Adventure, Science Fiction based Role Playing Game that holds a high standard that many games cannot obtain. The story line, back story and characters make this a game to beat any other in any genre.

I have played Mass Effect on the XBOX360 and completed it many times. This game is far better, and also includes a character import, so you can continue your story throughout. It is also confirmed to carry on with Mass Effect 3, due for release on the 9th March 2012 in the UK (6th March for US).

Many classes to choose from, each with their own skills. Along with 2 squad members to bring along to each aspect of the story, of whom you can level up their abilities, to make them better at what they do, which is also possible with yourself.

Everything you do with your character governs how the game plays out, throughout the trilogy (ME, ME2 and ME3). For example you can choose to go down the renegade (evil) path, and import that character to the second game and carry on with your evil ways. If you choose to let someone die, your character will reflect that choice.

I would recommend this game to anyone, and I am sure it will not dissapoint.

Mass Effect 2 is a GREAT improvement on Mass Effect 1. The graphics are SO much better and it's a lot less glitchy.
The combat has been revamped to make it a bit more of a challenge in how you now have ammo instead of just sitting there spraying shots until something dies, you have to be more conservative with your shots or run out of ammo :D
The space exploration is also greatly improved as now you don't find yourself exploring the same three buildings on every single planet, the missions you get from scanning are actually unique planets!
The story is as epic as ever, if not a bit more, and with an introduction to a bunch of new characters it also remains feeling a bit fresh as you get new people with new skill sets to explore with.
It did seem shorter than ME1 but that's only because you don't have to do more than 1 playthrough in ME2. My one playthrough took me about 40 hours on the hardest difficulty and that would have been like two lots of ME1.
Sadly, with some of the planet exploration there is a bit of a downside being the mining and probing. As you scan the surface of planets for spikes in minerals and then fire a probe and then continue, it gets boring and frustrating as you find yourself with 200k lots of Iridium but about 10k of that much needed Platinum.
You do also get a little more control over the space exploration in how instead of moving a cursor around from system to system, you go to a nebula and then you fly your ship around, like a cursor, to the different systems.
There are a few times where it bugs out, but with the size of the game you can let that slip.
There's also a lot of DLC out there, although it is quite expensive, but it means you still get extra gameplay out of your game even when you've finished it.
I would suggest this game as it can be quite challenging, but it is also fun with a big story!

A candle that burns twice as bright...

Having played and finished Mass Effect, I decided to pick up the sequel and continue Commander Shepard's story, hoping to eventually move to the much-anticipated third installment.

First thing I noticed was that although the gameplay mechanics were significantly changed, particularly ammunition usage, I got the grasp of the changes fairly quickly. The interfaces were also new, but with a refreshing "classic" edge.

Story-wise, I think it's a little too short. With the first game you recruited everyone in the prologue, bashed through lengthy missions on five planets and fought your way to the final boss. The other systems and their planets were encouraging, as well as the many assignments, which worked towards completing collections, getting codex entries and giving the universe a great depth of background. That was a winning formula in my books.
With the second game, this isn't so much the case: most of the game is / can be team recruitment, and the rest is short, semi-repetitive and hardly challenging. There are much fewer assignments and the whole exploring aspect has been scrapped in favour of orbital material scanning. Despite this, the background has maintained depth, if not built on it. One thing that made me smile were all the shout-outs to the events of the first game, such as returning characters and consequences of choices made (such as how the news reporter talks to you depending on your actions in ME1)

It may not be a perfect fit, but Mass Effect 2 is still a game that remains part of its established series.

SUMMARY:
Likes:
(1) Built on already impressive canon
(2) Still has some of the original flair
(3) Better character development
(4) Improved skill development
(5) References to events and characters from first game.

Dislikes:
(1) Complete turnaround of combat and exploration systems
(2) Felt much shorter

I have been going through a faze of playing RPGs that I have missed when they first came out. I bought Mass Effect 1 ages ago but never got past the first couple of planets and therefore gave up. I managed to get right into Mass effect 1 and decided that I would order Mass Effect 2 in order to carry on my loving experience of the Mass Effect world! I have not been let down. Though the controls have changed quite dramatically and the game play has altered slightly from the first, to name a few: bringing in thermal clips for weapons (which is basically ammo, no clips, no bullets, no chance) new weaponry and scanning planets for precious metals.

You can also integrate your character from Mass Effect 1 and continue his/her story from the off, picking up new allies and making new enemies along the way. I am currently about 75% of the way through the game and I have racked up nearly 24 hours game time, so it is certainly a game to pick up if you have the time to play it! Brilliant all round title 5* game and the price makes it a definite buy for any gamer!

The best xbox game ever

Created: 13/01/11
Mass Effect is one of my favorite games of the past decade. Despite its technical shortcomings, BioWare's first in what it promised to be a trilogy took the role-playing genre to new cinematic heights. Mass Effect 2 is a better game in near every way. From the very first scene, you will be hooked. And the farther you dive into this epic action role-playing game, the better it gets. It fulfills the promise of its predecessor while continuing to push the boundaries of what we should expect in a videogame.
