of Mice and Men

Having a daughter in year 11 studying for her GCSE's, I thought it sensible to arm her with the DVD to capture all those moments that is often missed, when reading a book. This is a classic example of life for single men at the time of the Wall Street Crash, when times were hard and life was very lonely. George and Lennie had a special friendship, they watched out for each other and were more like family than friends. Life on the ranch in Soledad was hard and lonely, but Lennie had a dream that some day he and George would have their own ranch and have Rabbits and live off the fat of the land. George was the brains and Lennie was the muscle, not too bright, but loveable. A must for all who are sitting their GCSE's this year and for the future.

I had to do this novel for my English literature GCSE. We watched the film in class. I found it very moving and showed the real hardship of migrant workers in this period. It exposes Steinbeck's ideas of sexism, racism, dreams and friendship. It is an incredible novella and I really think the film does it justice. I would recommend this to anyone and is one of the only films I have watched and really seen this many meanings. George and Lennie are two men that will never ever be forgotten. Loved.

Classic film.

This is an excellent version of the John Steinbeck book. My son is studying the book for his GCSE English and I felt it would help him to be able to "see" the whole book. It did and now the DVD is being passed around the class. It is true to the book with only the odd line missing where the screen can convey the same message without words.
