Excellent value, solid and reliable
| Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
I am a highly qualified and experienced network engineer, all of my home network runs Netgear. I've used this brand for too many years to admit to and it's never let me down.
The solid metal case is reasurringly robust, rather than many of the other brands plastic.
Also, no cooling fan, so it's nice and quiet.
It works straight out of the box, making it ideal for people that want an easy life. Granted most unmanaged hubs offer this but even when stacked with another hub, it auto senses and sorts itself out.
For those that remember a time before broadband, I even have a Netgear ISDN router languishing in my cupboard.
In summary, a simple and reliable piece of kit.
Great little product.
This is a great little hub. Not used much these days for normal networking (Switches are better than hubs).. But Ideal for running network traces with Wireshark software.
Well worth getting before you can't because they're not made anymore!
Hard to come by a real hub these days, they only sell switched. Hubs are very useful for lab work/packet sniffing where you need everything on the wire.
These old Netgears are reasonably solid - as long as the power connector is ok, they do the job.
NetGear DS108 8-Port Ethernet Hub
I bought this because I needed to access my laser printer and internet simultaneously and they both connected via the ethernet. Since the purchase I have had no problems, even when I exchanged laser printers, so I would recommend this product. I use a Power Mac G5, on OSX Leopard and the entire installation and use has been completely error free.
Hub DS108 8 port (not switch)
needing more expansion for the home network, this switch does a good job but can slow when compared to a switch, nonetheless it has universal power supplies with all nextgear pro stuff, and is a solid workhorse
