I thought this may be a great camera from reading the spec, and it is. For a 'consumer' category camera, it does have some exceptional picture qualities.
It does have a high dynamic range (detail is in both shadows and bright areas)
It does have an exceptional ISO range.
It does have great low light performance.
It is light weight, compared with contemporaries.
This is the most expensive camera I have bought so far, but for the first time, it gives me the ability to manually set the shutter speed and aperture to what I require, and then adjust the ISO to give the correct exposure (within limits, of course).
I am used to the articulated screen through using my Panasonic G1, so now I wouldn't be without it.
The down side? Well, it should be handled gently (the battery door catch is likely to break at any time), and changing settings through the screen menu can be slow at first. To avoid these issues, buy the heavier (more rugged?) D90 or a full frame D3.

A nice solid camera but being an old slr user i tend to find the menu systems a bit too complicated. My major gripe was not being able to autofocus with some of my lenses and the present lack of accessories to fit (although they will start to appear). The battery pack can be confusing when most that are available on e-bay (at a reasonable cost) will not work with this particular model.

I find the movable screen to be a real plus, having owned a fuji S9500 bridge camera with a similar device. I would have appreciated the the inclusion of a flash sync connection which would save me having to buy a wireless flash connector separately.

i already own a fuji S2pro but was looking for a lighter camera with a higher pixel count. i find the special effects to be unnecessary as these can be done with much more control within Photoshop Elements.

All in all a very good piece of kit with a lot of good features.

Review for: Nikon D5100 16.2 MP Digital SLR Camera - Black (Kit w/ VR 18-55 mm Lens)
The Nikon D5100 is the company's latest 'upper-entry-level' DSLR aimed at beginners or those wanting a step-up from a basic budget model. Announced in April 2011, it comes exactly two years after its predecessor, the popular D5000. The new D5100 is positioned between the entry-level D3100 and the mid-range D7000, and goes head-to-head against Canon's EOS 600D / Rebel T3i.

Inside, the D5100 inherits the 16.2 Megapixel sensor of the D7000, giving it four Megapixels more than its predecessor. It also unsurprisingly now offers Full HD 1080p movie recording, although unlike the D7000 this is offered at 24, 25 or 30fps. The D5100 also offers the Full-time continuous autofocus during movies of the D3100 and D7000 before it, along with an external microphone input. Completing the headline upgrades is a new EFFECTS position on the dial which presents a variety of special effects including miniature, sketch and selective colour, along with a Night Vision option working at up to 102,400 ISO. Let's now look at the camera in more detail.

Review for: Nikon D5100 16.2 MP Digital SLR Camera - Black (Kit w/ VR 18-55 mm Lens)
very much love photography, and it was a good one for beginners. contains loads of features for the dslr beginers. compared to other dslr camera it has good picture clarity, 1080p videos, selective color option, and great zoom compatability. the only disadvantage of this camera is that it doesnt have auto zoom option. the camera has a swivel LCD screen which helps to take pictures from a various angles. which is one good thing in it...

Review for: Nikon D5100 16.2 MP Digital SLR Camera - Black (Kit w/ VR 18-55 mm Lens)
Bought this camera for my business. I breed high end Royal Python morphs (Snakes). A lot of my business is generated from high quality pictures and videos and this camera really did tick all the boxes.

Love how easy it is to flick through all the settings, there really is a function for everything. Once you get to know how the camera works it becomes a dream to use. Just utilising the standard kit lens I was capturing amazing, high detailed pictures.

I dislike the camera strap, it really just gets in the way and is an overall annoyance. I understand the need for it (So you don't drop and break your new shiny DSLR) but would rather not use it.

Since buying this camera I had an unforeseen business expense so unfortunately have had to re-sell it. But I will 100% be buying another of these is short stead. Il even be investing in some extra lens, light boxes, studio lights and tri-pods. Top piece of kit, you wont be disappointed in you purchase one of these cameras.

Video is in 1080p which comes in handy and the swivel screen is made to a high quality (Really useful) and has a great resolution.
