The flash takes four AA batteries, loaded into a compartment on the side of the flash unit and secured with a hinged flap - which isn't lockable and does occasionally pop open while the flash is in a camera bag,

Supplied with the SB600 is a nylon, semi padded protective case and a plastic stand/tripod mounting plate - which can either be used to stand the flash up independently of the camera when being used in wireless mode, or if you want to attach the flash to a lighting tripod/stand for remote use.

A super flash outfit for those who wish to use and not worry about the complexity of fill flash, or exposure problems when using it,all automatic being used currently on my D90, having no concept of flash exposure calculation I just clipped it on my camera and hey presto great shots and excellent exposures using the TTL system,one has full control from camera, great in wireless mode as you can take it off the camera and set it up anywhere for excellent results.
Only thing to get used to is the setting up using mode - + buttons etc but does not take too long to get used to, one can even fiddle about and find what you want in the first instance of using it.
I am so impressed with it that's Nikon for you always on top of the game, buy one you won't be dissapointed bought mine on e Bay no problems great buy.

This flash is simple to use and set up. It functions well and is, for the majority of the applications which require a flash, an excellent and sturdy piece of equipment. I have used, at various times, all of the succeeding models of flash up to and including the SB-910 and, with the exception of the SB-800, I would choose the SB-600 every time.

So far so good. Have only used once but no complaints as yet. May be limited for some uses. Will work well as a fill in flash. But still not had any use as a main flash.
