5800 XpressMusic review
Pros - 1) Fantastic screen, very high resolution, bright and readable even in bright sunlight, 2) excellent sound quality (on par with high end Creative ZEN dedicated MP3 players) and standard 3.5mm earphone jack lets you upgrade to high quality earphones, 3) fast HSDPA, and a data counter is provided in the "Log" section to help you avoid exceeding the data limit (i.e. saves you lot of money) 4) good camera (though far from being the best) with excellent video capture (VGA resolution @ 30fps with sound), 5) excellent, highly usable GPS - well positioned antenna, consistent low time to first fix from cold start (<20 seconds!) from any location and doesn't drop signal when passing through narrow roads with tall buildings on both sides (much better GPS than my previous N95), 6) good browsing experience (for a mobile device) - 3D orientation sensor is particularly useful in this case, 7) robust Symbian OS, 8) excellent telephony (in the best Nokia tradition) 9) very useful image gallery, 10) above average battery life (48 hours with heavy usage of WiFi and MP3 player functionality and moderate use of GPS), 11) lightweight handset but with robust construction - no creaks (although E series build quality is even better due to usage of metal alloy), 12) large number of accessories provided in the box with the phone - case, travel charger, 8GB class 4 microSDHC, desk stand, lanyard + plectrum, TV out cable, earphones with integrated microphone, MP3 remote, USB cable etc. 13) I love the multimedia shortcut button, very useful in my opinion 14) excellent OVI suite, very intuitive 15) very good package for the price
Cons - 1) the only thing I miss from my N95 is the camera, the 5800's camera is the only true weak point of the handset, with only average quality. It is NOT rubbish as described by some reviewers on some specialized review websites. The flash is a bit weak too, and I wish there was a cover to protect the Carl Zeiss lens. However on the positive side it does record video in VGA @ 30fps like the N95 2) the touchscreen is resistive not capacitative, and although it is very well implemented and on the whole a pleasure to use, it's not as good as the iPhone.
Conclusion - this handset's positives far outweigh the negatives. I highly recommend this phone. I would rate it at 9 out of 10 (my only disappointment is the camera).

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Review
I find this phone excellent to use and I am completely dependent on it. The main thing that does it for me is that it has Wi-fi. I now will never go back to a phone without Wi-fi. One drawback is that if you are a pay monthly user you cannot perform a software update unless given permission by your network provider which seems alot of hassle just to sort out the minor bugs in this phone.
The included 8gb SDHC memory card is brilliant as I still have another 4gb to fill! Just like a PC you can click a 'safely remove memory card' button on the phone which safely shuts the apps off so you are safe to fill that massive amount of memory.
The Nokia app store aka. OVI store is excellent aswell as there are many useful (and useless but utterly fun) apps on there. Many Instant Messaging Apps can be downloaded and so can ringtones, themes, display images, quirky little apps such as Level, which is the rival to Iphone Spirit Level app, uses the built accelerometer to determine the angle of the phone and displays it on screen using the little bubble in the tube. I find it quite fun and accurate.
As you can tell by the name been branded to it the Xpress music part never fails to impress. With 2 loud stereo speakers built into this phone the sound just seems to bounce around the room when placed on a flat surface much like the Apple Imac does. With the ability to download and assign your own album artwork within the phone this proves to make your music collection not only sound but look better too.
Back to the internet and wi-fi. Well i can say that this phones built in web broswer is fast and is a joy to use. With youtube videos being displayed on the 3'2 inch screen its also a joy to watch. Which brings me to my next bit, the BBC i-player. What a fanastic piece of software. I use it many a time and the ability to save programmes to the internal memory is an added bonus. Many mobile versions of websites are available now and this phone takes advantage of this to display it simply and usefully.
This phone has a 3.2 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens and is very flattering due to the large resolution screen. Not expecting miracles from a phone camera i was impressed by this one. My one drawback is the fact that focusing can sometimes be a pain to get right with this. The video mode is good but i havent explored enough to write an indepth review on it.
Sound quality was excellent when speaking on the phone and the battery life on a minimal-average use is 2-3 days. When using it extensively for internet and music its greatly shortens it to just one day. The headphones supplied with this phone are brilliant and the hand controls on this saves going into the pocket to change a song. Personally the actusl headphones i did not like as i like in-ear headphones so i soon swapped thanks to the 3.5mm adapter on the headphone wire. The actual phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack to its very universal and versitile.
So overall this phone is brilliant and will not fail to impress. Looks and sounds stylish and with more gadgets and features than you can shake your iphone at. I will update in the near future with more information for you.
excellent phone, can do anything just like the iphone, 1000s of apps available from ovi store, only got free ones, some where crap and others very useful.
apps include spirit level, tourch, speedometer that actually works, altitude meter that also works [GPS signal needed for both speedometer and altitude meter] can be used as a sat nav but connection to a data plan [internet] is needed for map to be downloaded. GPS takes 30mins to an hour to get a signal lock, even in wide open areas! lacking a wallete feature found in older nokias.
built in WIFI, GPS, bluetooth, it needs to have infrared so it can be used to control tv etc would of been a nice feature but it doesnt have it.
free msn and skype on 3 network.
decent camera pictures and video quality.
very good music quality, think it has two speakers in it as there are two speaker holes on top or bottom, which ever way you hold it.
made of crappy plastic and does scratch quickly, but a cover / case should sort that out.
built in stylus holder and optional hand strap stylus makes using it easy. can use your fingers to touch the screen unlike the iphone, nokia used a pressure sensative thing and iphone uses the bodys electric to sense finger, so nails cannot be used which i found annoying.
full internet on screen, youtube works but it is crap quality to be honist.
full email checking for gmail and hotmail.
battery life is average unless you use the GPS and WIFI to which is drops to a few hours if your lucky. on stand by it lasts for a approx week.
touch screen is accurate and clearly visible in sunlight.
overall its a excellent phone with most the top features such as wifi and gps. wifi works perfectly, but gps is very sluggish, not ideal if your lost.
i rate this phone a 9/10 only as it lacks infrared which would of made this phone perfect for everything. internet, satnav, calls, msgs, msn, apps, games - perfect.
very good phone
hiya thanks for looking at my review ive only got 3500 charcters so ill have to keep it short.
ive owned the n73 for 6 months now and i thought i should tell anyone looking for a new phone how good it is.
first let me start by telling you that when the first phone was released it had some software issues was slow at sending texts kept crashing etc however the phone is now over a year old and nokia technicians have had time to sort the software out--this is easily avalible free over the net via download and is very easy to do all you do is connect your n73 via usb download a program from nokia and run it 30 mins later you have a fully updated phone.just check the nokia website out.if you read alot of reviews out there please remember that they may have had the old software installed hence they may have had problems and been anoyyed about the phone
i have the latest software installed form the nokia website and to be honest with you this phone rocks
good things about the phone
great camera 3.2 megapixel with auto focus and flash
symbian operating system
sat nav compatible works great with tomtom 6
fast bluetooth version 2
big screen with bright vibrant colours
great battery life
very well built nice and sturdy feels good in your hands
very loud speakers for music and handsfree
expandable memory up to 2gb
much faster then my old n70
great games and applications
can play movies
great video camera mp4 quality
easy to sync and i mean very easy
can play megadrive games snes games and gameboy games :-)
has a stanby mode to save battery phone is still live just saves power :-)
things that are not so good
ha ha thats about it seriously the only thing i can fault this phone on is the headphones its supplied with
but you can buy a adapter so you can use any headphones just check out ebay and i use my cx 300s with it and the sound is awesome :-)
when i say the battery life is good i use the mp3 player for about 4-5 hours at work and when i finish work after a few calls and a few games to the battery has used 1 bar at the max with the built in satndby mode this phone dosent suck up the juice at all just make sure you dont have bluetooth on every min of the day and turn packet data to recieve when needed :-)
i used to own the n70 please see my other review , its a great phone too i really like it but nokia have tweaked the n73 to make it what the n70 should have been in the 1st place
you see nokia arent stupid they could have released this as the n70 but they take it in stages with slight but signifficant changes to each handset in their range ie this n73 has no wifi but then they released the n80 which does have wifi but has no autofocus on the camera.very clever marketing from nokia
would i recomend this phone
yes very much so when they 1st come out they were quite exspensive but as time has gone on they have come down in price and as people renew their contracts youll find them popping up all over ebay and amazon
ive bought a few phones off ebay and they have all worked ok so dont worry about that just do your research on the seller etc
i truly love this phone i have a seperate mp3 player a seperate camera etc but when i dont wanna carry them all about then the nokia n73 does all of their jobs and it does them very well indeed a recomended purchase :-)
if you found this helpfull then please vote for it
thanks happy ebay
