The OCZ Vertex 3 offers a SATA 6 Gbsp interface for maximum speed and performance. The Sandforce controller design allows for very high sequential and read/write rates. It reads up to 550 megabytes per second and writes up to 500 MBps. The 4K file of the OCZ Vertex 3 solid-state drive writes up to 85,000 IOPS for optimal productivity. TRIM support optimizes the performance for the lifetime of the OCZ Vertex 3 internal drive. It is built to work well with Windows 7, Vista, XP 32 bit/64 bit and Mac OSX. This high-performance drive integrates well with both mobile and desktop platforms. The maximum performance of the OCZ Vertex 3 is 120 GB. The OCZ Vertex 3 internal drive has a slim 2.5-inch design and weighing just 77 g. Low power consumption takes just 3-watts while active and 1.65-watts during inactivity. It is a fully portable drive with shock resistance up to 1,500 Gs and is RAID compliant. A 3.5-inch desktop adapter bracket is also included in the package. The OCZ Vertex 3 is optimized for gaming and multimedia applications. The slim, light design makes it useful with either laptop or desktop computers. The low power consumption of the OCZ Vertex 3 solid-state drive brings operating costs down and helps extend the life of laptop batteries. Would give it 5 stars, but...

Be advised though that some examples (including mine) are not a standard size and will not fit in the cradle found in Lenovo and some other manufacturers' drive bays. The casing's profile is slightly wider on the bottom than the top. I fitted mine with just one of the rubber protector strips. Some sites on internet say OCZ is aware and later models will be changed.

What I have in my hands is retail 120GB Vertex 3 with what OCZ is calling its final, production worthy client firmware. The Vertex 3 Pro has been pushed back a bit as the controller/firmware still have to make it through more testing and validation.

I'll get to the 120GB Vertex 3 and how its performance differs from the 240GB drive we previewed not too long ago, but first there are a few somewhat-related issues I have to get off my chest.

This has got to be one of the fastest drives money can buy. Installed in my desktop using the adapter provided and it takes less than a minute from power-on to google surfing - you can't ask for more.
