Album Notes
Although long-players like DEFINITELY MAYBE and (WHAT'S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY are certified Britpop classics, Oasis has always been a singles band, so 2006's two-disc best-of, STOP THE CLOCKS, was a welcome arrival. Oasis has never been touted for their groundbreaking originality, but it's precisely their retro-styled concoction of irrepressible hooks and alternately chiming and roaring guitars that makes their music so appealing. STOP THE CLOCKS drives that point home and then some.Stretching from early gems like "Rock 'N' Roll Star" and "Live Forever" through latter period singles such as "Lyla," with the mega-hits ("Wonderwall") and B-sides sprinkled in along the way, the compilation serves to remind why the band was one of the most popular British acts of the '90s and beyond. Throughout, the towering wall of guitars, Liam Gallagher's sneering vocals, and brother Noel's impeccable songcraft create a rock template that pushes all the right pleasure buttons, and with 23 of the band's best on offer, STOP THE CLOCKS provides a lot of pleasure.

The Best Band in the World?

Created: 24/05/10
In 1994 I was heavily involved with a struggling unsigned band and loved my music. I saw on TV a bunch of scallywags claiming they were the best band on the planet and they were going to be massive, all with a swaggering arrogant attitude. It immediately put my back up big time. One year later, I had to admit, "you know, they were right, they bloody well are!". The band, as you may of guessed, was Oasis. At the time they were simply incredible. If you do a bit of research as to what was in the charts around the time they arrived you'll soon see that their arrival was more than welcome to people of similar likes in music to me (and there's a good few million of us). People hated Liam but they fail to see the whole point, he is the very definition of a rock star and boy, could/can he sing! I loved them. As many Oasis fans will testify a few years later it started going a bit array, only occasionally releasing something worthy of those early hits. For me, as soon as Wonderwall went massive with all the houswive's and then Champagne Supernova came out, I was falling off the love cart. Oddly enough it was the exact same time I went to the massive Knebworth and Loch Lomond gigs. I felt gutted becuase I loved them so much but felt reassurance in that at least the first two albums were in my possession and I'd always own them.

So I just kept half an eye on there following releases and eventually lost touch with what they were up to. Recently I saw a documentary about this album where Noel and Liam talked about it in 2006. Great program. I discovered the track Songbird from this and thought it was great and how nice Liam wrote it, a great track. So I bought the CD.

There's so many, and trust me there really is, so many superb Oasis tracks and I would of compiled a triple CD just from the tracks I knew about.

Noel - I think Cloudburst is the archityple Oasis track and it's not on this CD. What is on it though is a whole load of seriously superb anthems. Just buy it, mine only cost me 3 quid with Ebay. Buy all their early singles also, you always got 3 superb bonus tracks, which maybe where Noel went wrong, he should of held 90% of those back to keep releasing as singles and the greatest band of my life would of flourished for much longer.

Thanks for such a huge enjoyable moment in my life guys, give each other a hug!

Yawn.................

What this Oasis "Greatest Hits" CD proves, is how downhill they've gone since the initial dizzy heights of "Definitely Maybe".
Where as in the early days, Noel Gallgher ripped off The Beatles, ELO, and Bowie with a bit of joi de vive, the drink, drugs, and the eventual inability to think remotely coherently, results in some real rubbish making up quite a bit of this CD.
By the late '90s, Gallagher had run out of Beatles riffs to replicate. Unfortunately, this was around the same time as Liam lost the plot, and his once half decent lead vocals, degenerated into cocaine fuelled ramblings. This finally peaked at the BRITS "Life time achievement award". Liams vocals were that slurred, that at one stage I thought Shane McGowan had taken over as the lead singer. The only reason you knew that he'd sworn, was when it was bleeped out - a pointless exercise, because you couldn't tell a word he was saying in any case by this stage (and neither could he!).
If your bag is an out of tune sing a long after 10 pints of lager and a couple of lines, then this should do you.

Oasis - Stop The Clocks

Created: 04/06/07
I would like to start off with the reason for me purchasing this particular album. As a guitarist I am forever looking for inspirational bands from which to derive new tunes from. So I decided to purchase this album as I had heard a few of Oasis' songs and found them excellent.

To put it bluntly this album is brilliant, inspirational and very listenable. I advise all guitar players that like soft rock/indie music to buy this as Oasis are definitely in my personal top 3 most inspirational bands. This 2 disc album contains such Oasis classics as: Wonderwall, Stop Crying Your Heart Out and Talk Tonight. It also includes songs by Oasis that are different from their original style but are still very good, such as Lyla, The Importance Of Being Idle and Rock 'n' Roll Star.

The only thing i did not like about this product was that the case was not very durable and broke easily.

Overall this was an excellent buy, at an incredible price, i advise everyone to buy it!
