Magazine's second album perplexed many arriving, as it did, during the ferment of punk. It ticked all the wrong boxes by daring to contain songs that lasted more than three minutes, using the dreaded synthesizer and, worst of all, some of the tracks were slow in tempo. However, Devoto and co had already anticipated that there was only so far that the excitment of the three chord thrash could take you and Secondhand Daylight pointed the way forward to what is now called Post-punk, but was plain old new wave in the day. Generally derided as arty pretentious noolding at the time, if you want to know how we moved on and started adding creativity to music again - listen to Secondhand Daylight.

What a refreshing sound from the past after listening to so much of the current souless dross. This has lulling synths, ethereal backing voices, jumpy twitching guitars, Lydon like sneering vocals. Lets hear it for the lyrics "I'll open like a sliding door, oh so oblique and easy - your so bleak and easy". An albumn that is part dark, dramatic and gothy - but mostly punky and dancey. LETS POGO!

an overlooked masterpeice from 1979, the punks dident like it because it had synthesizers (to dumb)it was their strongest album, it is an album that needs to be played on a decent stereo to get the power of the tracks.basically it is difficult to compare to other albums because it was basically in a cetegory of its own, strongest tracks feed the enemy, back to nature, permafrost

Second album from arguably the best band to come out of the late 70s-early 80s 'punk' era. Excellent lyrics from Howard Devoto whose vocals make the album.
