The Best Direct Drive Turntable On The Planet!
Created: 29/03/11
An absolutly outstanding turntable for Djing are just simply for playing your treasured vinyl collection (with a non DJ cart.& elliptical stylus). Its strong quartz direct drive motor ensures perfect speed with very low wow & flutter! The only negative is if your buying a second one (or pair) you'll never know what they've actualy been used for and you may have to replace the tone arm, they cost around £40 for a geniune Technics arm and are relativly easy to fit if you are ok with a soldering iron (there's a few youtube vids on how to do this). Technics ceased production of these gems in 2010 so finding them brand new will be hard (and expensive)! Also do not listen to any one who say the SL1210s are better than the SL1200s, the only difference is the colour & dont be fooled by imatations (e.g. AUDIO TECHNICA ATLP120USB ), the build quality will be nowhere near to the spec of SL12's! Have Fun!!!

Technics SL 1210 Mk 2 Turntable Modifications
Created: 19/01/11
I bought this turntable second-hand through ebay as a replacement for my 1970's Thorens and SME set-up. My Technics is a Mark 2 and the great thing about these is that whilst they are really good in standard form they can be modified. This is because they are of such high quality and design that they can form a basis for a real hi-end vinyl playback system. Mine is modified by fitting a new SME 309 arm (although there are cheaper alternatives both new and second hand) and an external power supply. Also I upgraded the lights to UV/blue LEDs, added some isonoe isolation feet and a Technics transfer sticker on the base(just to pimp it up). Its great fun to do these mods over a few spare evenings but you do need some good mechanical and soldering skills (especially to change to LED lights). Most of the stuff you need is here on e-bay. I prefer this to some of the more modern decks because it avoids belts, has a proper dust cover, looks fantastic and high tech (forgive the pun)and you can customise to your needs. Oh and you can sell the spares you dont need here on e-bay to recover some cost. One small point is that I did have to enlarge the hole in the rubber base to make room for the new arm cable and connection. I used a pad (or keyhole) saw to do this. Its worth taking time out to make a good (rather than rushed) job so that the results look professional. I am very pleased with the end result that sounds great and looks great

The one...The only...The Legend.

What can I say...?
Any DJ/music fan knows what these babies are about. The monster turntables set the pace many years ago for so many to try and follow...Numark, Gemini & even the advanced & excellent Vestax can't come close to these. Built like a tank with smooth play, they never loose value and even though alot of DJ's now use Pioneer CDJ's or laptop programs like Virtual DJ but for the real vinyl feel, Technics are the one. After owning several other brands I wouldn't use anything else.

Technics SL1200 series are just the best that money can buy. It does exactly what is says on the tin. If you have any chance of buying one of these turntables get it, you won't be disappointed. Music was made for playing on these machines, but don't leave it to long as they have stopped production on the fabulous Technics SL1200 series.
