Pentax K-X 12.4 MP Digital SLR Camera - Black (Kit w/ 18-55mm Lens)

I've always had pentax film slr's, so I'm a bit biased! I bought this because it was a great price for the twin lens kit, and I finally wanted a DSLR. I have several K-mount lenses and didn't want to have them rendered useless, and ALL K-mount lenses will fit this camera.

The camera is small, fast, and easy to use. There's a very useful ? button which when pressed while you're using a function on the camera gives an explanation. The manual is very comprehensive - it has to be given the sheer number of functions avalable!

You can work fast with this camera. The other day I was surveying a potential house move for my partner and I shot over 100 pictures, all pin-sharp and perfectly exposed, in about 10 minutes.

Low light performance (I hate flash usually) is really good - the ISO range is 100 - 3200. I've found this very usable getting good pictures indoors at 1600. Tonality on JPEGS is also good - one word of warning though - stay away from "Vivid" in the filters presets - it give some horrible bleeding around the edges of objects in bright light. It saturates colours to a high, unnatural degree.

Overall I'm really pleased with my choice - it feels solid, looks good, handles well, and takes great pictures. What else could a photographer want?

Fantastic, superb, quality DSLR for beginners, intermediate or experienced users. It is unbelievable the features and quality on offer for such a reasonable price. The K-x takes stunning pictures and has amazing low light capabilities. It is compact, light and very well built. Also, the kit lens is superb and is good enough not to require an upgrade. This DSLR cannot be beaten for Value for Money and anyone considering it should not hesitate. There is also a vibrant Pentax user community with members always willing to offer help and advice. This camera is OUTSTANDING.

This is my first DSLR so I am not well placed to comment too much on all the features of this camera. What I can say is it's a great value package that takes really nice pictures- even in 'auto' mode (hopefully I'll move beyond that soon lol)
It looks good, is a nice size, and it's pretty compact compared to others I looked at- feels well made too.
The manual is very in depth and looks like it explains in good detail the various functions although it's fairly lengthy so I have not read it all yet.
If like me you are new to 'serious' digital photography, I don't think you could go far wrong with the Pentax K-X, especially since there are some really good deals about on them.

I have been looking for a camera that is well made- takes excellent quality photographs but is easy to carry about. For me, the Pentax KM is the perfect combination. I have to document a lot of events for work - I use my own equipment and like to use one camera for all-I would take this on holiday too although I am so fond of it already (only just bought) that I would keep it off the sand! Very pleased - I have had so many cameras in the last 2 years, trying to find the right one- they are either too bulky or disappointing image quality- now I have found a camera that I want to hold on to.

I asked for advice at a camera shop, and the camera I was advised to buy was the Pentax k-x. I continued to search for information, and confirmed what the attendant at the shop had told me. The red Pentax I bought is gorgeous, and has loads of specs to offer. It is excellent for the beginner, but I think that it is also very good for the professional shooter. I haven't tried all it can do, but I have been impressed with what I have tried especially the colour filters. It is a bit heavy and takes some time to focus correctly, but otherwise it produces excellent results every time.
