Product description

Product Information
This Philips Juicer gives you all the juice without the fuss thanks to its patented micro-mesh filter and powerful 700W motor. The extra-large feeding tube easily takes whole fruits and vegetables, so you don`t have to peel, core, de-seed or chop first anymore. The versatile motor with two speeds can handle hard fruit as easily as soft fruit, and because the pulp container is so large, you can make more juice in one go.

Top Notch Juicer!

Created: 16/01/09
Before bidding on this item I researched the market for juicers - it's grown a bit since I last had one about 10 years ago! For the most part, the Philips HR1861 came out on top - it was perceived as being well made, efficient and good value for money, not to mention that it was also not unpleasant to look at. I knew what I wanted from a juicer and was happy to hunt down a good one here.
I have not been dissapointed. It is very quiet, the motor runs smoothly and with a sense of great strength, and the little details are worthwhile: the jug that is purpose-built to fit snugly at the spout (complete with a hinged lid that stops any splashing) and the lightly suctioned feet that hold the machine firmly on a flat surface are both excellent touches. I also like the permanently tilted posture of the machine as it means that no juice is left behind in the insides to drip on you when you take it apart later; it all goes in the jug. It give the appliance character, too, which is a welcome attribute if it is to sit out on the counter for any length of time - compare the dullness of your old kettle or tired toaster...
Cleaning juicers has always been a rather tiresome chore, but even that task is easier than I had expected with the Philips. Everything will go in a dishwasher but I prefer to do it by hand - I expect that over time the slightly abrasive quality of dish washing tabs or powder will dull the clear plastic parts. The main housing wipes down very easily if there's any spillage as it is made of "Professional anodised aluminium"; the real benefit of this is that it doesn't show finger marks (it's also scratchproof and corrosion resistant).
The machine has two speeds but I am yet to see the true benefit of this; I just do everything on the top speed, my thinking being that, whatever the fruit, the faster it all spins the more juice will be forced out. Scientists are welcome to commment!
My only small warning at this stage (as I've only used the machine a few times so far) is that when you put fruit into the schute it can throw a bit of pith or skin back up - you need to be quick with the "pusher" to block the opening. Or, easier still, just use the flat of your hand. Or even (though I could find no guideline for this in the Philips manual) load fruit into the schute before turning it on, and follow the last piece down with the pusher.
All in all I have only the highest praise for this juicer: it's everything I had read it to be and I am delighted with my purchase.
I recommend it highly to anyone who likes quality products expecting quality performance from them.

excellent juicer

wanted one for a while but didnt know if id drink the juice as i dont really like fruit , i tried some that my friend had made and it was really nice not at all what id expected , so i bought this as it had the highest marks , not dissappointed was going to get a commercial model slightly more powerful than this one but kept missing out , eventually i won this and its great i shop for fruit once a week taking up all the offers , put it all in the juicer then make up 6 x 1 litre bottles and drink a litre a day , usually apple , black or red grape , pear and either strawberry blueberry or cherries which ever is on offer , they give it a nice colour aswell as taste , sometimes add in a little citrus "orange lemon pineapple" because these are really strong , my kids hate juice with bits in and most fruit , but they drink this , they are more inclined after helping , its fun the juicer can take all fruit , grapes strawberries etc. on the low speed , pears apples oranges lemons even a ripened pineapple if you cut it into 5 slices , id say it copes very well , after juicing about 3 litres of juice it needs the top and middle rinseing or small bits of skin start to push through , but this is after a lot of hard work , you unclip the top scrape out the pulp rinse , empty the pulp container , i put a carrier bag in the when you take it out the holder remains clean , it will be messy the first few times as you work out how to use it best , and its really easy to clean anyway , the brushed metal body can take a scouring pad with out damage aswell , well worth the money and i think the best juicer by far at this moment

Also lovely if you DO like fruit

Created: 02/02/08
The morning begins for me now with the fresh zing of 4 little apples and an unwaxed lemon juiced together. I'm buzzing!

You can buy class 2 fruit (lumpy apples, mishapen pears) and make a class one drink that isn't pasteurised and is utterly fresh. The 700W motor extracts a lot of juice - the pulp produced is really dry - and although it emits more than a low hum, it's not as noisy as a coffee grinder.

Yuu can experiment with your favourite flavours or find recipes on the web - there are loads of combinations that others have tried and can recommend.

OK, it's a bit of a bore to wash the thing, but it is dishwasher safe if you are feeling lazy. I use mine at least twice a day, so I hand wash it quickly after I've used it.

The machine takes up about as much space on the worktop as a small microwave and it would be rather fiddly putting it away and heaving it out again to use it, so I leave mine out.

I'm really glad I bought this juicer, and I'm looking forward to long drinks (melon, ginger and champagne anyone?) in the summer.

Philips HR1861 700 Watts Juicer

Created: 13/08/08
I purchased a used Philips HR1861 off Ebay for one of my son's who is a chef, I tried it first, well I would wouldn't I. What I like especially is the two speeds, great for softer fruits but also hard fruits and veggies. I also liked the idea of the jug slotting into the extraction spout, which means no spillage.
After I gave it, I almost wished I had bought myself one. I did! A brand new one again off Ebay. I am just so thrilled at its simplicity and ease of use.
I have found a new home for my other machine. No regrets all round.

Can produce juices in less than a minute as most fruit can go in whole without the need for chopping. Relatively quick and easy to clean. The juice yield isn't quite as good as what you'd get with a masticating juicer, however for use when time is short, it's well worth the money.
