Superb acting by Timothy Spall, british film making at its best

Heard an awful lot about this particular film so i decided to view it personally. Found it compulsive viewing, always been in favour of Capital Punishment, this film has changed my mind completely. Shows both sides of human nature, one revenge, the other empathy. Recommend you watch this film it will certainly raise doubts in your mind of how we treat our fellow human beings.
A movingly, harrowing account of Pierrepoint's life as Britain's official executioner throughout the 30', 40's and 50'. Incredibly well played by the underrated Timothy Spall, I sat, spellbound by the quality of the acting, historical accuracy of the scenery and surrounds and the incredible sense of Britain during the pre-technicolour digital age which made everything seem brighter.
I read the book in 1989 and was delighted that, for once, the film faithfully adhered to the written words of Pierrepoint.
His execution of the Nazi war criminals convicted at Nürnberg is extremely disturbing, not by the fact that they didn't deserve to be hanged, but by the pressure the British military authorities put him under.
I thoroughly recommend this film but caution even men to have a tissue handy for one of the scenes.
