Excellent sound quality from a small unit!
Created: 09/01/08
Pros: Sound quality - especially from such a small unit; ease of use; ability to pick up a signal; styling (especially in the darker Cherry finish!), clock radio function; kitchen timer; USB upgradeable; option to fit external aerial.
Cons: No FM radio, no battery option; only 6 presets; expensive.
This is an excellent little radio, I have to admit Pure make about the best DAB radios around currently. Sadly this seems to be reflected in their price, they are more expensive than most of their rivals, though with the quality you get you can see why they're more expensive.
The 1XT has a few extra tricks up it's sleeve when compared to the original Evoke 1, like an improved speaker/audio quality, USB upgradeability, and the option to use the unit as a clock radio. This is a very handy inclusion as a lot of these will find their way into the nation's bedrooms - and the other useful feature, a kitchen timer would be just as useful for those 1XTs that wander into the kitchen!
The size of the unit though means that it's very easy to move the 1XT from room to room with you, though unfortunately there's no option to run the unit off the mains, so you'd have to turn it off, unplug it, then move to it's new location. Not that it should be too much of a problem, as the clock auto-sets from the DAB signal so should remain accurate regardless of any loss of power, and the unit stores info like alarm times and presets (though sadly there's only 6 presets available, though it's child's play and quick to retune) in non-volatile memory so it doesn't lose them every time you unplug. The power adapter is rather heavy though!
The Evoke 1XT has other handy little features too like USB upgradeability to add any extra features as they come available, and any bug fixes (not that I've found any!), also the option to add an extra speaker to make the unit a true stereo DAB radio. The option to attach an external aerial is great also for those in poorer signal areas, though I've found the signal quality excellent.
Overall, a brilliant DAB radio, although a little expensive for the price - but a hunt round Ebay should find some more respectable prices. Sound quality is excellent, simple to use, with the classic styling (though this can be a love/hate thing depending on your tastes!) making this a very good overall DAB radio. Just don't stray too far from the mains!

Top quality DAB radio.

The radio is surely a quality product and the sound is great from a relatively small unit. The finish is superb.
Only bad point is that it cannot run off a battery pack so it can't be used remote from a power point - even in the garden. A small price to pay, but I believe other Pure models do have this facility.
Don't think I would pay list price for these radios as around £80 is way too steep.
A must for Planet Rock fans.

DAB RADIO USE MADE 'EASY'

If you are looking for a smart, compact, easy to use reasonably priced Dab radio you will not go far wrong if you elect to buy a Pure Evoke-1XT Dab Radio.I am extreamly impressed overall with the radio's design and quality of build. Tuning could not be more straight forward, sound quality is impressive at all levels,to conclude from my experience I would not hesitate in buying another product from the Pure range.

Pure Digital Evoke-1XT DAB Radio
Created: 05/07/09
This radio is a little package with a BIG voice. The case colours (cherry or pine) fit in with modern or traditional furnishings and the radio takes up little space. Before purchasing this radio, I had previously bought a Roberts DAB which cost over £100 - twice what I paid for this model on E-bay - and the sound produced by that radio is definitely inferior to the Pure Digital Evoke

Reception is perfect on the channels i can get. Dab radio is a different ball game to ordinary radios. We have two, kitchen and bedroom, both pure evoke from e-bay.
