Brilliant little radio, the second that I've bought, only replaced first one because I managed to drop it so many times over the last 2/3 years whilst out with the dogs that the lcd screen no longer works!! The radio is still fine just miss the use of the screen to let me know what station I'm tuning in to, whats on, signal strength and battery life.

Very easy to use, charges like a mobile phone, very good battery life up to 20 hours use between charges. Much better for me than having to use aa/aaa batteries like many of it's competitors.

It's very light and compact, slips into t-shirt/fleece pockets. (but slips out easily too!) I recommend that you buy a case for a bit of protection if it should fall out of your pocket as although the radio is robust, the black case does mark quite easily.

Excellent reception, good clear sound with the sennheiser earphones that are the standard issue, or with other earphones that you may choose to use. Local AM reception is poor at best, so this is a godsend.

Great for all types of listening, I use it to listen to music of all types, current affairs/news programmes and football and cricket matches.

Works well both indoors and outside. Only places that mine won't pick up a signal are as with mobile phones, on the tube,in tunnels and in some supermarkets.

Could it be improved? if I'm being really picky a speaker would be good (but that would mean that PURE would need to add a telescopic aerial, as the Roberts sports radio has) it would probably result in reduced battery life though as the speaker would need to be powered.

The only other extra that I would like is the capability to bring DAB radio clarity to the car radio. I know that The PURE Highway offers this but you rely on aa/aaa batteries when not plugged in to the car. Neither ommissions detract from my enjoyment when using the radio.

When compared to other personal DAB radios The PURE 1500 offers the best overall package at a very good price, includes good(if basic) headset, clear instructions and excellent battery life.

Excellent pocket DAB & great battery life but pricey

Pros: Excellent battery life (24hrs stated); very good sound quality; best 'supplied' headphones I've come across (though not perfect); nice design and build quality seems robust.

Cons: Very expensive for a portable radio; Reception is good but seems a bit variable (and I'm in a good signal area) though this probably down to transmission strengths; Battery pack excellent but no option to use widely-available AA batteries.

I've tried a few DAB radios recently and so far none have really come up to scratch; this one is the closest so far! When I say reception isn't too good, that's probably not the fault of the 1500, transmissions strengh of DAB signals currently isn't very strong, and coverage is patchy anyway. This DAB from Pure holds the best signal of the portables I've had, which includes Sony's offering, excellent though it is it can't quite beat the Pure on signal strength.

The radio has excellent sound quality, and is supplied as standard with Sennheiser MX300 headphones, which are great although I've noticed they seem to clip/distort on certain sounds/frequencies, though this isn't generally too distracting. Controls are easy and simple to use, and the display shows all essential info and is easy to read, with a backlight also available, which usefully can be set to be on permanently. I was a little wary of the proprietary 'Chargepak' battery that comes with the 1500, but I feel the trade off of not being able to use AA batteries is more than compensated by the 24-hour battery life, meaning needing to carry spare batts about whilst out and about will be a thing of the past! Charges via supplied AC adapter.

Overall, this is a pocket DAB I think I'll be sticking with, the odd niggle but less than other pocket DABs have, signal reliability should increase over time, and this should prove to be a good companion when I (finally!) start doing some walking to get fit!

Excellent Radio

Created: 07/04/09
I have had a pure move and loved it but required a radio to use while out walking and this looked ideal. Reception in my home is poor; old FM radios only work on the stairs. My Dab Move, even with aerial fully extended, has poor reception in the kitchen but this little Portable plays perfectly. It even worked inside the ASDA and the local shopping mall. The sound quality is perfect and reception fantastic. I use it in the car through the AUX port and it plays brilliantly. Definitely the best portable radio I have had.

Dab 1500

Created: 05/11/09
It's a wicked pice of kit.Loads of presets for dab/fm.Tuned 30 odd channels first time and I live out in rural Dorset.
Great sound from the Senhiser phones, plenty of power.Battery lasts for hours, then just charge and away you go.
I have purchased a pair of portable speakers (small box type) so I can use the radio at home also.Sounds very good.

Review of a Pure DAB Digital personal radio

Created: 01/09/07
The reason I bought the DAB radio is that I already had one, a Philips, and it developed a serious fault after about 15 months. I was going to buy a Pure radio at the time but plumped for the better known (to me) brand. I am at this present moment highly delighted with the Pure DAB radio as it has better sound and looks a very strong construction, it also has an internal re-chargeable set of batteries which last 20 hours, very good! I have nothing negative to write about this product and I wish I had bought it first and not the Philips which was troublesome as the on/off switch mal functioned quite often.
