Great way to be woken up!
Pros - Surprisingly good sound quality from the single speaker; power cuts won't wipe your alarm settings/clock reset via DAB signal; plenty of handy features like Textscan and Intellitext; and DAB+ upgradeable!
Cons - Display a bit too dim at night to read; can't set a certain station to wake up to - will wake you up with whatever the last station you listened to was.
An excellent little clock radio from Pure, which despite it only having one mono speaker has pretty good and warm sound quality. The alarm settings and presets also are stored in such a way that a power cut won't wipe them, and the clock is kept accurate by the DAB time signal so will reset itself to the right time.
The radio also has quite a few handy high-end features too, like Textscan, where you can pause and 'fast forward/rewind' the scrolling text, ideal for if you miss a competition number, email address or missed that track name! There's also Intellitext, which I haven't played around with much yet but it stores automatically the competition info, track info, and headlines etc. that scroll across the screen so you can read them at your leisure. And what I think is a big plus is that this is just about the only unit available on the UK market that is DAB+ upgradeable - there could be stations starting to transmit on DAB+ in the next year or two (which has even better sound quality than DAB). This is done via the integrated USB socket, making it easy to update the unit's firmware online.
The downsides - I've found the auto-dimming LCD goes too dim at night making it hard to read, a few other reviews I've read have mentioned this also. You also cannot set a specific radio station to wake up to, for example if you like falling asleep listening to Talksport or 5 Live and wake up to Radio 1, you'd have to make sure you set the radio to Radio 1 before going to sleep or you'd wake up to whatever station you listened to last. However, you can set the volume level on the alarm, so it doesn't matter what vol level you listen to prior to going to sleep.
Overall, I recommend this DAB clock radio, the faults are relatively minor, and it's plus points far outweigh them. An excellent (and future-proof) DAB clock radio with some useful extras!

- exceptional dimming display. it goes very dim as night comes. This might be a drawback for people that wear glasses as it might be to low. For me it's just perfect because I don't like distracting lights when I go to bed.
- good sound from such a small box
- it automatically sets the clock after the dab station. You can set it individually as well if there is no DAB reception in your area.
- 3 easy to set up personalized alarms
- attractive design
- no dedicated buttons for the radio presets. You have to press the presets button and then pick up the radio channel you want to switch to
- no battery backup, just in case there is a blackout. So bear in mind if you have electric blackouts in your area.
- i would have loved to hear more highs sound-wise. I find that the highs are subdued on this radio.
- i would have loved to have stereo sound, but as I said in the Pros section the sound is good enough.
Siesta flow second hand
Good: For the size of the Siesta Flow the speakers do very well and produce a respectable amount of bass. You may laugh at the pure sounds but they are pretty good for drowning out partying next door. There is a huge amount of internet radio stations and podcasts and listen again. You can plug in any other sound source with an aux in. You can charge using a usb port. You can play music from a media server from a pc, lapton, NAS (with a media server), games console (xbox or PS3) etc.
Bad: It's second hand and logging on to my Lounge account is impossible because it has been previously logged on to the previous owners, but you can edit all the favourites and use all the functions that way. To navigate to your favourites is a few button presses, I'd prefer one in place of the 'flow' button which I will never use.
Overall I like it a lot and fully recommend it for a bedroom/kitchen radio. Very good quality.
Great Little Clock/Radio
| Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
Great little clock - I love it! I was a bit unsure at first because the clock display is quite small and I find it hard to read especially at night when it is dimmed and I don't have my glasses on. That for me is the only drawback and I have got used to it (put my glasses on if necessary!)
Why I like it:
Size - sits very neatly on my bedside cabinet.
Good radio - great to be able to preset stations.
Two alarms - can be set for daily, weekdays, weekends.
Love the fact that if I unplug it to use socket for hairdryer, I don't have to redo clock - it automatically sets itself. Also did not have to put clock forward for BST.
Good quality sound from radio - perfect for bedroom.
Great value for money. Would recommend it especially if you have good eysight!
