Quad ESL-63 Main / Stereo Speakers

These are certainly lthe best speakers ever made in the world.You have a coaxial sound system with time delay .This speaker sound awsome without the coloration of the cabinet .The only problem is the bass,the low frequency is not goo for it, you must use a good subwoofer and a cross over to cut off the bass in the esl at 120 or 170hz to get the maximum for pressure and coherence.
Mines are working with 2xtad 15 inc with a time delay,to get the maximum coherence .
The medium is awsome, and mid bass is very very real,the treble is sometimes a litle teeny .These speakers like current ,you must have an excellent amplifier .Valve amplifier are the best , meanwhile you can drive them with excellent transistorised amplifiers like the Es sony line (since the 55es to the 90es TAN),the big ADcom GFA 555 mk2,or the wuad 520f or 707 themeselves.Do not take the 405 or the 306 they will not have the pulse to move the ESL...

These are superb speakers, especially when driven by recent quad valve amplifiers ,I use a Quad606mk11 which,is made for them although being a transistor design does a pretty good job.
Drum and Bass fans are not advised to buy these ,The bass is fine for general material but an audition is reccommended.A warning to buyers ,make sure repair/service reciepts are available as unlike conventional speakers they require periodic new panels Quad are great to deal with but mine had all new panels at a cost of £1200 with an initial purchase price of £700 and faulty when I bought them Quad advise all panel repacement ,I liken it to buying a car and asking when the cam belt was changed last .To me they are worth the expense considering the latest version costs £5500 it is useful to have cartons if avalable as these cost me £70 from Quad to get them returned .These were discontinued in 1999 so 13 years of age is the newest you can buy.
