RAC 200 Car GPS Receiver
Created: 25/04/08
I find the RAC 200 Car GPS Receiver very easy to use even if you only know part of the postcode it comes up trumps. Gives clear instructions, plus user choice of fastest & shortest car, lorry and also for walking journeys.
Or if you know what way you want to go but it tells you a different way and you know that you wish to go your way it will recalculate its route or if you do make a wrong turn and unlike others the voice doesn't get on your nerves.
The menu's are straight forward first is Main menu you can select from Navigate to, Map options, Sound on/off, Points-of-Interest(POI), Favourites, Zoom to, Exit, Change settings, Plan a route A2B, Navigate via A-B-C and so on, GPS information, and Help.
Select Navigate to, option are: Home, Office, Favourites, History, Locations with smart postcode search, even pick anywhere on the map, And POI around destination.
(POI) Points of Interest (POI). Comes in handy as there's many things you can select, from where's the nearest Airport, Amusement Park, ATM, Auto service/club/dealer, bank, Bus station, Border crossing, Cinema, Hairdresser, Holiday resort, Hospital, and many more....
In Map Options change to night colours, 3D perspectives, set the angle between 2D & 3D, Show/hide favourites, Select map, Legend and POI.
Save all your favourite places like set home/office addresses, add/rename and remove the ones you no longer goto.
It comes with a stylus (pen) for the touch screen, although you can touch it with just your finger.
It will also let you know when your breaking the speed limit on any roads. although you can turn this off if you want, sometimes it gets it wrong, it tells me that by Pitsea ESSEX, on the A13 it tells me that its a 30 limit when in fact i was still in the 70 part.
The screen is easy to read, map of where you are going on the left.
Name of the road across bottom.
Bottom right box tells you GPS information, how much battery and signal.
Click the box and it gives you information on Longitude, Latitude, Altitude, Direction, Speed, How many Satellites its picking up, Time and Date.
The next box up is Statistics that has Distance, Duration, Average Speed, Maximum Speed, Sunrise and Sunset.
Next ones when your on the move tells you how long, what you eta should be and how many miles you have left to travel.
Top one tells you what way your going or if a turning is coming up with the distance away
Although I paid 144 pounds for it from JD Williams catalogue, where since I've seen on ebay and some other places for 85 pounds. I'm not disappointed as it suited me at the time, to pay for it bit by bit.

Sound Vision RAC 200 Car GPS Receiver Sat Nav Must Have
Created: 10/03/08
I bought this Rac Sat Nav because I feel that RAC is a name you can trust! it is visually compact but easy to read, the day to night change over is excellent and very easy to use for the not so technically minded, the direction prompts with yardage and voice countdown make sure you don't miss a turn off! don't worry if you do! it just changes to get you back on track!! There is nothing to dislike 'really nothing' I have found yet.
I bought this to give as a birthday gift, but I wish it were mine! It has made viewing properties much easier, by planning the route in advance and just using the post codes I did'nt double back on myself once, which saved time and money!!
The stress levels on a day out have gone, it has I feel made driving safer! i'm looking more at what's going on around and not searching for road signs that get blocked by some of the bigger vehicles on our roads, I have also found roads/lanes and surprises I did'nt know were there! It has certainly made
a difference.
My friend and I now find excuses to visit all those places we thought were too complicated or too far to plan out with a traditional road map spread out over the dining table for hours the night before, neither of us really wanting to do the deed in case we got it wrong? Now RAC no problem, one little post code and were off...

RAC SAT NAV 200 GPS for UK ROI
Created: 14/09/09
It is a good basic Sat Nav for Ireland and Uk. I found it good in Ireland because it has the names of all the little places in the countryside. It does not tell you what lane to be in like other sat navs do like Tom Tom. It is not that easy to get update maps. I believe it is about £31 from RAC at the moment. You cannot download it from the internet as far as I know, so dont place your SD card in the computer to update as you run the risk of loosing everything like I did. The Holder and suction to window is very large and hard to put away in pocket of car to hide it. I wonder if the RAC could come up with a smaller mount. It can be a little slow to pick up satilites, but when you get use to it, you can set it up for your journey when in car and it will pick up shortly after you start moving.
It does not give you a very detailed of the route before you begin. It gives you the miles or kilometers and the time it will take for the journey.
If you are a beginner with Sat Navs and want someting simple it would suit.
I dont know if they are coming down in price, but I see them in many places at about £89.99. I hope this is helpful. Ok

Dont waste your money

I to thought because it was backed by the RAC it would be a great buy, I was so dissapointed. It took ages to locate a satellite, Then the marker would drift all over the place, normally into fields, It was very touchy when trying to install postcodes, do not use fingers, On many occasions it failed to inform of change of direction, when it was quite clear you had to make a left or right turn.Took sat nav took ages to turn on. The left hand side buttons would rub and press on the holding cradle when adjusting and turn the thing off or re-start it. even the cradle would drop off the screen for no reason ,The screen was far to sensative and therefore easy to make a mistake and you had to start again The only thing it was good for was speed camera warning. As a sat nav useless. You pay get what you pay for at £99.99 it made a good speed camera dedector ,and nothing,My advice would be else dont bother, regards judith 58121

Not Bad
Created: 01/06/08
A good sat nav for the price. Picks its routes very well, better than some of my mates more expensive brands. Never sent me in a wrong direction, and has never sent me up the wrong way of a one way route yet, again unlike some of my mates more expensive units, which have. Free speed cam updates for life.
But the rac 200, is bad at postcodes, and the mapping is not as good as other brands, but a update is available in July 08 so rac say.
The Good,
Free speed camera updates [for life].
Cheap.
Better made than price suggests.
Easy to use.
Good routing.
The Bad,
Bad Instructions book [although full guide on disk supplied].
Bad postcode search, and mapping of a lot of small streets not great [update due in July].
