After the break up of the short lived The Little Flames, Miles Kane - perhaps more famous for his role in The Last Shadow Puppets with Arctic Monkey Alex Turner - returns with his former bandmates as The Rascals. This, their debut album, sees the band play a brand of raucous British indie rock inspired by the sounds of the 1960s as well as contemporaries such as Arctic Monkeys, The Coral and The Zutons. The single 'Freakbeat Phantom' is also included.

This Album is crammed with Scott Walker cool, Merseybeat psychedelia and angular tunes as sharp as their 60's dress style.
In fact anyone who enjoyed Rascals frontman Miles Kane's recent side project The Last Shadow Puppets, with Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner, should know what to expect here. Their sounds are steeped in the swinging sixties, albeit with a menacing undercurrent flowing throughout.
"There are a lot of influences like Scott Walker. But maybe not as much as Last Shadow Puppets". "But I think there is also a bit of Oasis and Coral in there as well. It's got a great dirty rock sound to it all."
From the opening "call to arms" that is the title track, the angry and unsettling Stockings to Suit and the fantastic groover Bond Girl, these songs prove The Rascals are more than a retro retread that some of the less conspicuous tracks might have you presume. It may not have the same impact that The Last Shadow Puppets had but there is enough on show here to warrant another trip down memory lane from this band of musical mischief makers.

) This cd is my current in car favourite. The tunes are so catchy and Miles loveable rogue scouse vocals are just made to sing along with. Having seen Miles along with fellow Last Shadow Puppets (and Artic Monkeys)frontman Alex Turner live I was interested to hear what his own band's music sounded like. I was recently reminded of The Rascals while watching AwayDays where they do a cover of All that Jazz by The Bunnymen and at the end of the film sloped upstairs to order the cd. It's definitely got that scouse sound going on but at the same time has a rawness to it. Just a shame that they've split and gone their separate ways since the album was made. Well all I can say to that is The Rascals are dead, Long live the Rascals!!!!
