Album Notes
Personnel includes: Roy Orbison (vocals, guitar); T Bone Burnett, Bruce Springsteen, Mike Campbell, Jackson Browne, Elvis Costello, K.D. Lang, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Waits, Jennifer Warnes, Don Was.
Producers include: Michael Utley, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne, T Bone Burnett, Don Was, David Lynch.
Includes liner notes by Tanja Crouch and Roy Orbison.
Digitally remastered by Stephen Marcussen (Precision Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
The black clothes, the dark glasses, the spine-tingling falsetto...these Roy Orbison trademarks reinforced the image of the loners and lovelorn characters populating this legend's canon. The 80's were a rebirth for Orbison, resulting in Grammys, Traveling Wilbury membership and the resumption of a successful career cut short by a heart attack in 1988.
THE VERY BEST OF collects a chunk of Orbison hits re-recorded in 1985 (the initial masters were caught up in legal proceedings threatening their very existence). Regardless of time's passing, Orbison's pure singing style and talent kept the songs sounding true to their original versions. Previously unreleased nuggets and live performances round out this package, including songs from the star-studded BLACK AND WHITE NIGHT LIVE album, a rare acoustic reading of "Pretty Paper" (taken from a 1964 British TV special) and Orbison's own rendition of "Claudette," 30 years after he wrote this hit for the Everly Brothers.

Play it all night...?

A selection pact with the old favourites even the youth of today would know (and i suspect secretly love), alongside a few perhaps slightly less recognisable records from this ever adored and eternally listenable voice.

"You got it" is a record i personally believe would be very hard to improve on and deserves all praise it has im sure at one time or another recieved, "I drove all Night" fills your head with the lyrics that i know all women long to hear, and the shear power of Roys voice in "Its Over" really brings home the tragedy in such a sad song...these three records alone i think, are reason enough to own this compilation.

It is, i conclude, a must have, and absolutely money well spent!

the best of albums

Created: 29/11/10
my friend likes Roy Orbison and purchased an album of his singing early hits some 20 years on bad choice by then most artists have sung the songs so often I am sure they got bored changed it from the original enough to annoy as we know it is very difficult to improve on an original hit whoever sings it or does a cover, this albums is excellent as it reverts to the original recordings and should be a must buy for an Orbison fan.

Roy Orbison-The Very Best Of Roy Orbison(CD 2006)

Created: 09/02/07
I decided to buy this title because it brings back memories of my teenage years. My Brother and I used to listen to Roy Orbison, and we really loved his music. Unfortunately, last July I lost my dear brother to cancer, but when I play this cd the memories all come flooding back and I am back in my youth.
This is the best CD I have purchased in a long while.
