an exellent piece of equipment!

the combined dvd, freeview, and live tv recorder saveo on space by having a three in one system! i didnt realise that the live tv can be paused, so that was an added bonus! the other good things is that a memory stick can be inserted via the usb port! never worry about having discs to hand as the hdd can cope with quite a few recordings (not sure how many though, must be al least 30 recordings so far, still got 60gb left)
the tv guide on the freeview is rather slow to change, as is the system on start up, takes a few secs to load!
i decided to upgrade my old freewiew box, but wasnt really looking for a dvd player, however because they were combined, i though it would be ideal to replace an old dvd player at the same time!!

great piece of kit

I bought this unit to replace a Philips machine which only had an analogue tuner. My TV region has now gone digital.
The unit has a 180GB hard drive, great for recording programmes direct from the EPG.
Transfer to a DVD is easy for archiving and the DVD player upscales via an HDMI cable, giving great picture quality.
My only complaint is that the EPG takes too long to load proramme information, but other than that it is proving to be a really good unit, which I picked up for a great price on Ebay. Recommended

GOOD BUT NOT PERFECT

I bought this toe replace an LG model that gave up after 6 years of faithful service. It does have the advantage of being digitakl so no need for an extra decoder box.One main niggle is when editing out adverts from films to put on dvd it is a bit slow and messy but does work once you get the hang of it.Also trying to combine or make new playlists from recorded programmes will not function so it means doing everything individually very time consuming if you want to put 3 or more episodes of a tv programme on one disc(I send them to Brits abroad) Also it does not chapter in segments as the old LG did so search is a matter of fast forwarding from the beginning. It works fine on one remote but I do have a SAMSUNG TV however the "anynet" loading is drawn out to nearly a minute especuially if yopu use an HDMI connection All in all it s fine once you get through the many paged and not so clear manual

Tries to do too much

This machine does a lot of different things but it doesn't do any of them particularly well. The digital TV tuner picture quality is pretty poor and the TV controls are unresponsive. Changing channels can be infuriating, working only half the time and then suddenly jumping several channels at once when it finally responds. The DVD player is noisy and you have to wait an age to get the door to open. The DivX player is terrible, it just can't get the aspect ratio right, so if your TV does not have good format controls in hi-def you are stuck. A poor effort from Samsung.
