This is my first smartphone and I was a more than concerned about changing to one. My fears were completely unfounded however. This is the "entry level" handset, hence the "Young" branding (trust me it's just as decent for those over twenty!) but that doesn't mean bad...
The screen is more than readable, text messages and appointments easy to view despite the size of screen. It's not as bright as some screens but does the job just as well. Sound and call quality is great and clear regardless whether you're calling from a noisy location. There's a camera too...2mp so it doesn't knock holes through walls but hey this is a phone after all. I've found the touchscreen responsive but it did take me a little time to get used to texting with the on screen keyboard. A few days though and I was away with it.
Games play OK too - no probs with Angry Birds but I was told to avoid any "graphic intensive 3D games" no probs there for me - the birds do me just fine!
Battery life is OK. It was explained that you've got to remember with Android phones there's more going on in the background and that takes the power. I've found by using Task Manager and closing applications, especially before turning the phone off improves battery life. Tip, turn off unneccesary functions like GPS when you're not using them and select 2g functionality. This in turn helps your charge go further.
So am I impressed...well yes. I can read email on the go and stay in touch whilst away from home, obtain directions using Google Maps and a whole ton of other things too.
I'm pleased I've finally dragged myself into buying something that little bit flashy. I've liked it so much I bought my 12 year old one (in white) too.... she likes it and finds it just as good to use and it stands up to her friends more expensive phones too. I've also bought my son one (in black/steel grey) for his birthday next month when he turns 11. These phones are also available on Pay As You Go in different colours - white and pink too - check out Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U
Give this phone a shot and I don't think you'd regret it. It's ideal, if like me you're on a budget and have birthdays/Christmas to think about. Ask if you can play with one in the shops and don't be afraid to ask questions too!!

This phone was bought as a replacement for a previous Samsung phone that died.
Although only a couple of years younger, and a bottom-end smartphone, it is much more advanced.
The touchscreen is nice and responsive.
One of the first complaints was that battery life seemed very short. After some research we installed Juice Defender and experimented with the settings, this has made a HUGE difference, battery life is perfectly acceptable now.
The virtual keypad is useable, kind of, with female hands (my partner can't use the keypad and uses speech to text instead, which is very funny! Note : speech to text requires Wifi)
You can use Google Play to get your favourite apps on the phone, though not all are compatible.
Email from the browser works surprisingly well, though very compact compared to my tablet!
The browser is good, allowing 4 windows at once.
Wifi and 3G both work well, though I added a couple of quick switch on/off widgets for wifi and airplane mode, as funnily the drag-down screen doesn't include all the necessary buttons.
Texting is good and conversations are shown, though finding the right conversation can be confusing.
The main gripe with this phone we have found is that, in a similar way to the previous Samsung phone my partner had, the phone sometimes becomes "disconnected" and cannot make or receive calls or texts or messages, even though it looks fine - so it takes a while to realise. To fix it means either switching off completely or sometimes even removal of the battery to reboot to a working state.
This happens, we suspect, when the phone has been taken out of range of a network, for some reason it won't get back on the network again when it could.
A second failing is that occasionally it will not end a call. The phone has to be switched off completely or battery removed!
We got a cheap fold-over cover from Ebay which keeps the phone protected from scratches etc.
Summary:
This phone is reasonably compact and does a great job of keeping up with the essentials online even when away from home.
It works very well with SIMs of different networks in different countries, obtaining APN settings automatically and seamlessly - great!
Overall great value for money (c. £100 when purchased)

I bought this to replace a non-Android Samsung phone which had been a disappointment. I can't justify an expensive phone as I make only occasional use of one, but I did want GPS and Bluetooth etc.
For the money, this phone fits the bill perfectly. The screen is responsive, there is a good range of Apps available and I'm very satisfied. If I ever need to change my phone again I will certainly put Samsung at the top of my list.

A nice compact phone that is durable and pact with really good features and applications.
I purchased this product to send to a friend abroad, however did not end up sending.
The thing I disliked about the phone was its processor, its slow and does seem to lag a little.
Compared to my HTC and iPhone it is a downer, but Samsung are doing well with other models such as Galaxy S2 and S3, but overall the Galaxy range are fantastic, they won't let you down.
