Great Phone! works perfectly and looks great
I bought this phone recently after reading some good reviews on here and the reccomendations of friends. And i'm glad to say that i everyone was right. I love this phone!
A couple of reviews i read mentioned some annoying features of this phone, such as the fact that sometimes you can brush the touch sensitive buttons, cancelling the texts you've just written. I'm not sure if the phone's been upgraded but my phone won't do that, if you accidentally brush the button then it only gets rid of the last letter you typed, and it doesn't happen often at all.
As far as the touch sensitive buttons go, in my opinion they couldn't get much better. They look amazing and they need just the right amount of pressure to be used. When they fade out after you've used the phone it looks so slick it's unbelievable. In my mind this is without a doubt the best looking phone on the market, and i'd buy this over the D900 any day.
Features-wise this phone is top of the range. It may not be 3G (video-calling) but it's got a 2.0Mpixel camera which provides really clear and crisp photos, theres a speedy bluetooth service, the media player is quite good (although the speaker is a bit tinny), and theres stacks of room for storage, especially with the TransFlash memory card inserted (I bought a 4Gb card).
The front of the phone can look a bit messy if you get grubby fingerprints all over it (which isn't too hard to do but it can easily be wiped down). The back has a similar problem but this isn't as noticeable.
The sliding mechanism feels very firm and is not fragile at all. Other slide phones can feel pretty flimsy but this feels like a good, solid build. The phone weighs under a 100g and is the perfect size to fit into your hand. The keys feel solid as well and aren't too small to use comfortably.
The phone comes with two "skins," one black and one white. In my opinion the black one looks way better (check the samsung website and you can see for yourself) but its a shame that you can't download other skins to use. There's the normal range of abstract images for backgrounds which aren't too bad really, and when you connect the phone to the PC using the supplied software and cable you can quickly and easily transfer all your favourite images across to the phone, and back up your phone book, calendar etc.
The phone claims to be able to open documents such as spreadsheets and word documents, which I'm afraid I haven't tried out myself so i can't tell you how well this works (or doesn't, as the case may be).
In calls, this phone has a great quality call signal. Network reception is always at least 4 bars (out of 6). I've never had a call dropped or any signal loss, even when the battery's starting to get low. And talking of batteries...
Hope this has helped! And if you're thinking of buying this phone, then definately go ahead and pay up. You won't regret it..

Samsung SGH-E900 Mobile Phone
You look at it and wonder is it going to be as good as you hope for.
Well, lets look at the pro's
In its favour is its size, small enought to fit any pocket or bag.
The battery life is pretty damned good as well.
Signal on Orange seems always good to excelent.
Screen is crisp and clear.
Slide is smooth.
Audio is very nice, no troubles with those wierd echos or ghost voices.
As simple to use as even my favourate Nokia, and thats simple.
It's a pretty cheap unit considering how well it does what it does.
And now the con's
The screen blacks out a bit faster than I would like if I take no action to stop it.
The touch sensitive controls can be a bit too sensitive which can be a tad annoying at times.
You have to physically switch the keypad and touch sensitive controls on after opening the slide.
Inserting a memory card can be awkward if you have bigger fingers, I ended up seating it with the blunt end of a knife as my fingers are just too big.
I would rate the mobile fairly highly, I suppose I must do really. I brought one for myself and was impressed enough to bid on several more until I won another for the better half ( she loves the mobile as well ).
Although I would have hoped for louder volume on the inbuilt speaker its still good enough for me to hear even over the noise of a truck engine. Everything about the mobile feels solid and crisp, positive and smooth slide, crisp clear screen thats easy to see in all but very bright sunshine and a good alround unit. The bluetooth works well with everything I use, the controls are easy to use once yoou have adapted to having touch sensitive controls rather that actual keys, although as I said in the con's, they do at times seem just a little too sensitive and can jump you back two or more steps. I have not used the camera yet as thats not something which I need a great deal, so I cannot really say anything about it.
Overall, I would give this mobile a good score of 8.75
I hope that this review is of some help to those of you who are looking for a cheap reliable and small mobile

Samsung SGH-E900 Cell Phone
Phone is light in weight and small in size but just right to hold and talk for long periods of time. The phone adopts a slide model which is neat but this splits the electronics over two boards you may want to consider a phone with single board if you wish to use it for a project.
Using the phone I find the button interface was designed for a kid or person with small hands, the keys arnt easily singled out if you wish to tap in a phone number quickly. I've read meantion of a touch screen, so far i;ve only found a few keys on the top use a touch method.
Theres nothing in the menus to turn the phone to silent, & I couldnt figure out the key press although theres a little speaker on one key, I had to search on the internet.
When you switch the phone on the little vibrator motor goes on for quite a few seconds longer than nessesary consuming battery power.
The phone comes with an awefull set of ring tones none of them suitable, this is probably to encourage you to buy some.
Overall its got a nice screen, camera, mp3 playing, all good except I;ve nticed a lot of these phones end up with a screen failure. Its a bit dated and there are more up to date phones on the market which wont have the same design fault.

E900 : The King of the Sliders?
To give some background, I have owned this phone for just less than a year, as it came into my possession for free as a result of a new pay monthly deal.
It came with all the necessary cables, including a rather nifty software bundle and USB cable, for moving number, pictures, or whatever onto your PC/laptop. The frist thing I noticed, was its VERY elegant styling; something I would be proud to pull out of my pocket, whereas my old nokia 3510i didn't quite cut it in that aspect.
Having left it to charge for the necessary timespan (as one does do with all new phones), I put in the sim, and away I went. Nothing weird about the installation, it was all very simple.
As for actual handling, it was all very easy; I thought I might have a problem with the touch keys, as some other people had had problems, but to this day, I've never got frustrated with the buttons; once or twice, you will miss the key you were trying to push, or accidentally close the menu, but it is not a big deal (maybe I'm just more patient than other people ;-) )
The battery life seems reasonable for a modern day phone; my friend has had much worse a time with his blackberry as far as battery life is concerned; I probably need to charge every 2-3 days, and that's with occasional use, not constant talk-time.
As far as the phones software is concerned, it was very much one of the selling points of the phone for me, because the interface is important to me from both an aesthetic and utile point of view. It is VERY easy to navigate the phone, and the address book is VERY usable (unlike motorola's, in my opinion).
The screen is large and has very good definition and brightness.
Also, you CAN use your own mp3's as a ring tone, which is a bonus, as some phones do not let you do that; the music player is very pleasing to the eye, and there is enough space on the phone without an extra memory stick to put on about 12 tracks.
The camera on the phone is very good, as is the video capture...
OVERALL, I would recommend this phone to just about anyone, though I think you may struggle with the buttons if you have large fingerpads. This phone is a great catch, and though my contract ends in one month, I am not yet persuaded that I want to change my phone, and may sell any upgrade I receive instead.
N.B. I have not yet used one of the new U Series phones from Samsung, which are a thinner range, and somewhat, the successors to the E range; presumably the build quality is just as good, and I know for a fact the slider phone in the U range has a very large screen, and is slightly taller than the e900, though slimmer.
