Will DiCaprio find the truth on Shutter Island? It's worth finding out.....

I was drawn to this movie because it is a Scorsese and DiCaprio partnership. I wasn't disappointed because it was an absorbing 2 hour watch that twists and turns, that kept us hanging on to see if those missing from the island would be found.
The gothic atmosphere of Shutter Island is at times almost unbearably claustraphobic and at times stunningly beautiful. The film itself has excellent production values and the accomplished cast is led by DiCaprio on supreme form.
For me it harked back to the old movies and I could envisage it as a black and white thriller from the 60s.
It's a 15 cert - so not one for the kids as it is a bit dark and ugly for them. A good story, well told - good watch when the kids have gone to bed.

Shutter Island is everything you need in a film.
Headline actor, Di Caprio who is mesmerizing in his performance as the story protagonist Teddy Daniels sent to Shutter Island to investigate the strange goings on.
Leonardo Di Caprio's performance is arguably his greatest performance of his acting career. A powerful and strong statement to make but he really does own the character of Teddy who is not all he seems to be.
Whilst Teddy makes uneasy discoveries about the island his mind is being messed with and Scorsese masterfully leads the viewer down a winding story which ultimately demands the audience to decide the sanity of Teddy.
Everytime I watch this film the clues speak differently and the way you interpret events, actions, even characters' mannerisms can make you see different outcomes for the film through superb attention to detail by Scorsese.
It's a film of great depth and allows different interpretations. Enjoy the journey and believe what you want.
Was Teddy insane from the start, was he turned by the medicine and cigarettes and coffee, did he IMAGINE meeting Rachel Solando in the cave?
You decide...

An Interesting film with a good twist and plot
Created: 11/04/10
This is a good film - one you have to watch constantly (no nipping out to make coffee as you might miss a key part). Staring Leonardo DiCaprio it is based in a hospital for the criminally insane during the 1950's. The story is that of a federal marshall who is investigating a missing patient from the hospital but all is not as it seems. I found the story good but half way through I knew what the twist was from the way the story unfolded and therefore the ending - I thought it was quite obvious which took away some of the enjoyment. Overall it could have been written better to make the twist more of a shock but I still enjoyed it. Not a massive budget film as it is all based in and around the hospital - but its meant to grip you as a thriller with the twists and turns in the story not any other effects. I would recomend it as a nice film to fill an evening.

Shutter Island - What a twist - Amazing!
Created: 28/09/10
I watched this on sky box office first and had to buy the dvd. I will not spoil the twist for anyone who hasn't seen the film, but you would not guess what was coming. This is a truly amazing film with such an imaginative director.
Can't wait to watch this again now! I just ordered 'The Departed'on dvd as well, same director and with Leo. Hope it's just as good. I haven't seen it yet.
