A vast improvement over the supplied headset
Created: 07/09/07
I purchased a new SE K800i mobile phone and have been blown away by it's funtionality (I used to carry an SE T610, Canon digital camera and iPod...now I just carry the K800i!)
Sony seems to be marketing their phones either as digital camera capable (Cybershot) or MP3 capable (Walkman) I wanted a 3.2 megapixel camera so plumped for the K800i.
However, the phone (in my opinion) was let down by the included headphones/headset.
As a handsfree unit, it's more than capable but for audio playback it left a lot to be desired.
The two-piece HPM-70 (included as standard with Sony's 'Walkman' phones) is such a huge imrovement.
Bass response is far superior and thanks to the in-ear design which blocks out more external, ambient noise; treble is also 'up-the-scale.'
I have quite small ears (for a guy) and was pleased to see Sony supplying a range of silicon buds (similar to their higher-end Fontopia range) in various sizes, which should suit any size 'lugs' ;-)
These phones still have the added functionality of an override button device and microphone for answering calls while you wear them.
As a bonus it's possible to unplug the headphones from the microphone module and plug in any phones you want (with a standard 3.5 jack) ideal for those people who simply must be seen with white iPod headphones ;-)
I seriously have nothing bad to say about this product!
All in all a great set of phones that even an ex iPod user wont be ashamed to be seen wearing.

Good build, poor sound

Build quality is very good, although sound quality isn't.
I compared them to my old Sony Ericsson HPM-70 Headset, new ones felt better when inserted in ear, because of different ear bud material. When I turned music on, I felt bit disappointed- there's almost nothing in low sound frequency band and overall stereo picture feels laborious.
I've tested them on my phone, laptop and mp3 player - old headset gives much better bass sound, difference can be felt straight away from first beats. One more difference can be noticed - new headset has better sensitivity. This means, that new headset gives louder sound on the same input signal level.
I like this kind of headsets because they have very good surrounding sound isolation. It's very good to use them in noisy surroundings, but on the street extra caution must be taken - cars and bikes usually assumes, that you hear them coming closer. When using headset as hands-free, sound isolation properties become very handy. I didn't notice any surrounding sound isolation differences between old and new headset.
Over all - I think poor sound performance can be explained with item price. You get what you pay for. It's good item for music listening, to enjoy music I would buy something else. However I can't exclude, that my new headset was bit faulty and that's why sound quality was unsatisfactory for me. I bought this item only for wire, that connects to phone, and ear buds, so I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Sony Ericsson HPM-70 Headset
Created: 09/04/10
I mainly bought the Blue HPM-70 headset because i've never used the blue set before & i've noticed that the sound quality can be different with the different coloured ranges of HPM-70 headsets outthere. The result in this set was that they sounded brilliant. They produce a deep bass sound which is great, especially for when your listening to Drum & Bass & music thats being recorded in a concert. The mid range & high notes are particulary great, especially when you have music that features quite alot of female vocals (Like vocal trance), then they sound very crisp & clear. I would recommend people to buy this sort of headset, especially if they have a "Sony" or "Walkman" branded product. I say this as they seem to preform better with Sony products, rather than other branded phones, laptops, MP3 players etc.

HPM-70

Hi,
These are some of Sony's best headphones. Great sound & bass. A must for all Sony mobile users. Rubber caps on the headphones means you can change there size to fit your ear perfectly. HPM-82 do come with a remote but of course cost more. still these are great headphone and well worth the money. Just be careful as a lot sold on Ebay are fake Chinese models and are rubbish. Make sure you get original Sony headphones!

Got a mobile phone or an MP3 player? Well take a quick look at the Sony Ericsson HPM-70 portable handsfree kit.
You can listen to your music on your mobile phone and soon as an incoming call comes in it will automatically cancel the music for you to answer the call, sweet ah. Some said this about this headset “I like that fact that it allows you to listen to music and not miss a call since your music fades out and your phone starts to ring. It s a really small and lightweight headset with handsfree functionality push to talk support and comfortable well designed earpieces for listening to the FM radio or MP3 player (depending on your handset). Summary So it s a pair of stereo headphones it s a handsfree kit which will also help you stay safe and legal if you answer calls whilst driving and useful remote puts you in complete control. I m amazing it s such a low price and it s an original Sony Ericsson product so you are also guaranteed the quality you d expect from a branded product. The fact that this comes bulk packed (no boxes and wasted card just a simple plastic snap shut bag) means you aren’t paying for packaging which is another reason the price is so low Save money AND help save the environment”.
