I managed to get these headphones for £10 inc p&p and so this will influence my review on them, seeing as anything will seem good for that price!

These are my first pair of on-ear headphones (having used in-ear earbuds all my life) and it certainly changes your musical listening when you switch. These particular headphones are pretty comfortable and the wire is a little longer than usual headphones (I suppose due to their use for DJing). I was a little disappointed not to get more bass out of them (I enjoy listening to bass heavy music e.g Dubstep and original Dub) and this was my main motivation for getting on-ear headphones.
However the sound quality is still way above and beyond what I am used to and so in that respect I have been thoroughly impressed by the Sony MDR-NC7 headphones. When I listen to some music I've heard the artists talking in the background where I'd never heard anything before. Instruments sound sharp and defined. I'm embarrassed to say I haven't even been bothered to buy a AAA battery to try out the noise cancelling yet so I can't offer any comment on that, although I hear that while it doesn't rival a lot of headphones for noise cancelling, you'd be hard pressed to find better for its generally low price.

The headphones fold away to a fairly impressive size although I must say I tend to either wear them round my neck or take them off and put them on a surface so I don't use this feature much. I guess if I ever packed them I'd be grateful for it, although in the meantime its just a minor annoyance when everything flips about as I put them on and off! (that's me whining, it's not a reason not to buy them!)

All tastes are personal, however my advice with these headphones would be, don't pay too much for them and you'll be very happy. I'd imagine had I spent anything above £25 all in, I'd have wished I'd got more bass for my money. If you're not looking for that kind of application for them then I think you'll be impressed by the sound quality, particularly when you compare with other headphones in its price bracket.

I like these headphones to the point where I don't even want to admit that the bass leaves something to be desired! However that is the truth. Hope this leaves you feeling informed.

I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing this product, as it is very disappointing. If you use these headphones without the noise cancelling function activated, almost all of the base is wiped out, making things sound very 'tinny'. The sound quality is just about acceptable when the noise cancelling function is activated, but that's about as good as it gets with this product. I also found them to be very uncomfortable after only 30 minutes wear as there is not a 'recess' in the cans that fits over your ears, so instead they press on the ear, which is uncomfortable. The actual NC function seems to work ok, but I have not had a chance to test it on an aircraft yet as this was my main reason for buying these. I have to say that I only paid £20 for them, so I suppose you get what you pay for. If you want a cheap pair of NC headphones and are not overly concerned about quality of sound, then these would do ok, but if you want more than just ok, avoid these like the plague as you will be very disappointed. The fact that there seems to be loads of these for sale on ebay as second hand, should be warning enough to avoid them.

Sony MDR-NC7 Headphones

I bought these to use with my Sony camcorder, they appeared to be a reasonable price compared to other Sony models.
I liked the sleak design and the fact they could be folded down to fit inside a neat little pouch provided with them. These are great head phones, stylish, compact with great sound quality.
Recommended.

made by sony!?

compared to my c280s "bose" headphones these really are rubbish, The sound reduction is very lacking cant even block out a 19db shows how rubbish they are and also there is no volume boost so if your listening through a hands free kit on a mobile id suggest you look elsewhere these really are not worth buying also the middle folding part digs into your head!

Does exactly what it says on the box

These are probably not the best headphones I have ever listened to, but for this kind of money, they are very good. Shop around, the prices vary between £20 to £50. If you want top quality, like Bose, you will have to pay £200 to £300.
I use these with an iPod Nano and they sound great. My father-in-law tried them on his portable DVD player on holiday this year and he now has a pair of his own.
Battery life is very good (just don't use cheap ones & remember to turn the switch off when you finish listening!!!)
Sound quality is good and vastly improves when you turn on the noise cancelling switch. Noise cancelling is very good, and most "droning" noises, such as planes, cars and general background noise are much reduced.
They are fairly comfortable and don't take up a lot of space when folded up.
All in all, I am pleased with them.
