I bought this product as I wanted to experience all the good features of a sony playstation, but I wanted handheld as I travel a lot so wanted something to entertain myself on long journeys.
I really like this product, it fits nice in the hand, looks great, and is easy to use. However I found there wasn't a huge range of games for the console, and also sometimes when I play whilst lying down, it makes me feel a bit sick. I have spoken to others who have felt this as well.
Much better than a nintendo DS though because it just has one large screen, rather than having to flick from one screen to the other. And the graphics are great.

I bought the psp 1000 because I wanted to watch videos and play games on the go and I it was cheap. Buying a refurbished one was better because it's like brand new....you wouldn't even know it was a refurb and in Gold.
I can't get used to the little analogue stick on the left because it's quite small but I heard that I could get a bigger thumb piece for the stick.
I can only really compare this to the nintendo ds lite as I own one...... Totally different gameplay but can run emulators like megadrive, snes, gameboy etc on both.
Graphics and gameplay are far better on the psp and the screens a decent size.
Basically this is miniture ps3 as the interface looks the same, you can even log in to the psn for online play.
I think it's a nice touch that you can link up you psp to your ps3 through your home\office network and all the music and videos plus some games that are on your ps3 are shared directly to your psp system through the network...........It remotely logs into your system and even shows your home screen wallpaper. I own a ps3,ds lite, Wii, pc. hundreds of games maybe thousands.

After roughly a decade at the top of the home console industry, Sony decided to tackle the portable system market--one heavily fortified by Nintendo's Game Boy Advance and DS. Sony sought to take down Nintendo by adopting the tactic that made the PlayStation 2 such a runaway success: by offering sophisticated, graphically intensive games and a heavy dose of multimedia functionality. The device is called the PlayStation Portable (PSP), and in addition to playing games of PS2 graphical quality, it can play music and movies (downloaded or via disc) and surf the Web. It may not be the best handheld media product on the market, and the games lack the innovation of ones on Nintendo's portables, but as an all-in-one device, the Sony PSP is king of the hill.
From an aesthetic perspective, the Sony PSP is a gorgeous device. It's one of those gadgets you immediately want to get your hands on but vigilantly want to protect once you set it down. Weighing essentially the same as the Nintendo DS (6.2 ounces, including removable battery) and measuring 6.7 by 2.9 by 0.9 inches (WHD), the body feels well built and solid in your hand. Although not a lightweight, it's by no means a brick, nor, we suspect, would it be especially durable in a fall; you'll want to treat the PSP just as gingerly as an iPod or a Palm-style PDA.

Light, slim enclosure; screen offers better color reproduction than that of earlier PSP models; improved AV output for video and game playback on TVs; built-in Skype with onboard microphone; retains all of the impressive media and online features of earlier PSP models; deep lineup of great game titles that offer better graphics than Nintendo DS games.

Bought the product due to wanting a PSP to play PSP only games eg Final Fantasy Dissidia Deodecim. The PSP is a good piece of kit, a good size with enough weight so you can really tell it's there not one of these new fangled items where you wonder if it's just a box of air. Out of the hand held consoles I'd say this is one of the better ones, easily the equal of the DS if not better, most certainly better than the 3DS as you can use it for more than 2 minutes and your eyes don't feel like they're hemorrhaging.
