review psp

After roughly a decade at the top of the home console industry, Sony decided to tackle the portable system market -- one heavily fortified by Nintendo's Game Boy Advance and DS. Sony sought to take down Nintendo by adopting the tactic that made the PlayStation 2 such a runaway success: by offering sophisticated, graphically intensive games and a heavy dose of multimedia functionality.
The device is called the PlayStation Portable (PSP), and in addition to playing games of PS2 graphical quality, it can play music and movies (downloaded or via disc), as well as surf the Web, with many new features on the horizon. It may not be the best handheld media product on the market, and the games lack the innovation of ones on Nintendo's portables, but as an all-in-one device, the Sony PSP is king of the hill.
The Sony PSP is available online in a number of bundles. Two of the most common are the base model pack, which is just the console, battery and the AC adaptor, for around £150, and the Giga pack, which usually has a carry case, a pair of headphones and a 1GB Memory Stick Duo, for around £200. Games are around £30 and UMD movies around £17 for the latest titles.

3000, an ok upgrade ^_^
Created: 10/07/10
So, I decided that it was finally time to upgrade from my old PSP 1003 model. It was one of the first released in the UK, and it has done me very well all these years!
I had a look around for the latest PSP models barring the GO, and as soon as I saw the Vibrant Blue model, I just had to have it!
The first thing that I realised as soon as I took it out of the box was just how light it was! In comparison with the original 1003 model it's definitely lost some weight somewhere, although a positive in my mind, it makes it feel a little too fragile.
I think the change in the UMD drive as a pull out mechanism rather than a switch/pop out mechanism adds to the fragile feeling of the newer console, but does make inserting and removing UMDs a lot easier.
I like the improved wireless capability along with the built in mic, a nice touch for Skype and other application downloads.
Now onto my main gripe... The screen. Sadly what I have heard from others is true, the screen, although said to be more enhanced and brighter, has taken a step back somewhat from the original. I think something went wrong in hardware development as the screen doesn't look any different from my original 1003 model, except from the fact that it has developed pretty nasty scan lines, making gameplay a little less enjoyable for someone who expected much more from Sony. This is something that Sony will not be fixing. Probably not the greatest of problems, but for a console that is meant to be an upgrade from an older, outdated model, it was less than pleasing.
Aesthetically, this console is a great looking piece of hardware, but in terms of development, I would say that there isn't much improvement from the original.

PSP Turquoise 3003 model

This item is great!
Nice and slim so you don't get cramp in your hands >_> lightweight, which is always nicer than lugging around a heavy old thing! I like the colour! =D Great sound quality, can have it playing music in me car (while in motion) and still hear the lyrics. Nice clear screen. I like the fact of if you accidently switch it off, it'll remember where you left your game. =)

One handheld, one lifetime of fun to be had.
| Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I bought this product primarily as a replacement for my old PSP 2000 since it randomly decided to crack the screen - making it utterly unusable besides playing music. Although I could have found a cheaper buy for this model, I decided to go with the turqoise model simply because - lets not beat around the bush here - its pretty amazing.
I know the PSP pretty much inside out, so there was nothing new or untoward upon receiving this item except theres a few changes in the 3000 model to the 2000, notably that the home buttons along the bottom are slightly different shapes and the PS symbol replaces what usually said "Home".
The library of games for the PSP is quite stellar if you enjoy what it has to offer. RPGs, rhythm and action games are the mainstay, but a fair number of racing or fighting games are to be had as well, although this is not to say you cannot find at least one game of any genre worth playing on this. Compared to our Eastern cousins in Japan, the Western library does rather pale in comparison but if you are willing and capable of playing imports then the true greatness of this handheld is unlocked.

PSP 3000 brilliant console great games selection and many other features. I could be abit biased as i have been playing games for over 20yrs and love all the consoles out there (infact own 95% of them lol) really if you want a great handheld get this or the DS theyre both as good as each other and have their own unique points. Or how about this GET BOTH! you wont regret it and then get yourselves a good games catalogue for both.
