when the PS2 game console came out you could still play PSX games on it (PS1) it's a shame that you can't play PS2 games on the PS3 console. . .

This product probably doesn't need a review, it's pedigree speaks for itself.
The Playstation 3 is Sony's flagship console and it's easy to understand why. The menus are slick and sophisticated, easy to use and best of all they have speed. Not often does functionality and design mesh well but Sony got it spot on here.

The design of the slim console I personally think is a thing of art, especially when conpared to the newest slim design. The one with the awful sliding top on it is just terrible to look at.
As for games selection I'd say the ps3 has a very good selection, from the intense action heavy battles of Killzone, to the more adventurous escapades of Uncharted. The ps3 has a game for everyone.

There isn't much I dislike about the ps3, one thing I can think of though is the excessive download and install times. Its just a slight inconvienience, when you've just downloaded a game or demo, to then have to wait another twelve minutes while it installs the game. It's not a major issue, just a slight annoyance.
On the other hand the ps3 is slick and sophisticated, runs very quietly, has a great selection of games, rechargeable controllers out of the box and has blu ray disks, so no more swapping disks out when you get so far into a large game. Oh and did I mention free online multiplayer?

Sony's main competitor in the console field is the giant that is Microsoft and their own Xbox 360.
The Xbox is a great piece of kit, one I stuck with for many years.
Between the Xbox and the ps3 there aren't many differences, I mean they both look good and both play games, music and films well. The main difference I think is the fact ps3 has Blu-Ray giving it the edge in terms of disc space, in theory games released on the ps3 should be graphically superior in every way but developers aren't willing to spend the extra time and resources needed to make this happen which is unfortunate. The ones who do however really prove how much the ps3 can do, games like the Uncharted series or the latest installment to the Final Fantasy franchise look amazing. When comparing FF13 on the ps3 to the Xbox version you can definitely tell the difference.

If you're still undecided as to which console to get I'd say have a look at the exclusive game list and decide which set you like more and buy a console accordingly.
Xbox has games such as Halo, Fable and Gears of War whereas Ps3 has games like Metal Gear Solid4, Heavy Rain, Uncharted and God of War. It's just a matter of preference both consoles outshine the other in different areas.

Bottom line: the Ps3 is beautiful, I love mine, the slick interface and rechargeable controllers are awesome, the exclusives are varied and unique and I no longer have to pay for multliplayer which is great in the long term.
