GREAT CONSOLE - IT ONLY DOES EVERYTHING

Created: 30/11/10
This is a great console, it has a massive hard drive, built in fast speed 802.11g wi-fi, it detects my wireless network and allows me to view the files stored on my laptop... it's the perfect media center.

I can watch tv shows on iPlayer and YouTube and also browse the web. The PS3 has its on Social Networking service called PS Home where users can meet other players online and challenge them.

The PS3 not only plays DVD/Blu-Ray, it is FULLY 3D Capable as of the 3.50 update, and Gran Turismo 5 is the first game to unleash that potential.

The PS3 Controller is wireless and Rechargeable and has excellent battery life. It has the unique Six Axis functionality and Dual Shock 3.

I don't even use it as a Games Console anymore, I use it more for other things, because the PS3 is the ultimate media centre.

It support 1080p and 1080i HD tv, and has AV-Socket for those of you that don't have HD.

It works seamlessly, and is ultra quiet compared to it's predecessor and uses less energy. It is very small and sleek, and is the most versatile console on the planet.

With the PlayStation Move, the console far exceeds the abilities of the Nintendo Wii, and is more precise than the XBOX 360 Kinect. The PS3 Move controller can be used for First Person Shooter Games also.

You can watch HD movies on demand using Net Flix and MUBI and PLAY ONLINE for FREE against your friends using the PLAYSTION NETWORK (PSN). For those of you that play games like Call of Duty, you would love not having to pay that extra amount every month.

You can watch latest Music Videos using VidZone and view your collection of Videos and Camera Photos directly from your PS3. The PS3 plays AVI, MP4, XVID, DIVX, MP3, WMA and AAC files (and more).

When you're not browsing the web, or playing games, Watch or Record LiveTV using PlayTV or video chat with your friends for free using the PlayStation Eye.

The PlayStation is not just a console, it only does everything.

Unopened PS3 Slim 120GB

First of all I am thankful that I purchased the item at a lower price (£205 excluding P&P) than a high street retailer (which was £250)making a saving of £45. I liked the fact that it was unopened and not used at all. I praise that it was in full working order just like it was brand new.

I disliked that the box was slightly damaged and the packaging used was amateurish. I am also unsure whether the product is still in the warranty period as it has been in a previous owner's possession for certain amount of time.

The product itself is a triumph of electronics engineering. this is Sony's masterpiece truly beautiful to look a,t although quite monstrous compared to the latest model of the PS2 and much lighter and slimmer than the first PS3 which makes the PS3 slim seem look like its been on a diet. It still has a hefty weight to it ( 3kg ), but this is most likely due its internal components which feature the much hyped RSX chip providing the PS3 with its workhorse engine. overall it provides a powerhouse entertainment system that is worth a reasonable amount of money.

overall I am very pleased with the item and happy that I purchased it on Ebay.

Sony Playstation 3 Slim 250gb PS3

Created: 23/08/10
Having owned the original Playstation from when it came out (big grey rectangular one), and also the Playstation 2, I almost felt obliged by Sony to purchase this new PS3 Slim.

I had done my research, and plenty there was to be done before i bought this console, and came to the conclusion that, the pro's definitely outweigh the cons.

Pro's:
1) The graphics! Wow, HD gaming at its best. Most titles released now are playable in up to 1080p format which when you have a Full HD capable TV, it will blow you away.

2) Blu-ray. This is the next generation of DVDs, they are very large capacity discs (some more than 10x the size of a dvd) which can hold high definition video capture. The quality is just unreal, and some websites you can pick them up brand new cheaper than the dvd equivalent. Also Sony have recently update the firmware of the PS3 to enable it to play 3D Blu-rays (with a 3D compatible TV).

3) Size and Efficiency. The Slim line version of the PS3 is 33% smaller, 36% lighter and consumes 34% less energy than the previous, larger generations of Playstation 3s. Much better if you are struggling for space in your home, or just don't want to clog up room where it is placed.

4) No subscription cost for online play. Unlike its rival console, it is free to play online. All you need is an internet connection, either wired or wireless, and it is so easy to set up.

Cons:
1) Expensive game titles. £45 and upwards for a game is daylight robbery, yet some people are still more than happy to pay it. Although to our advantage, there is a rise in discount websites (play.com, amazon.co.uk etc.) that offer the titles much cheaper if you are willing to wait until the "honeymoon period" is over.

2) The need to download and install software every time you play a new game. This frustrates me quite a lot, you are excited to play a new game, you put the disc in and BAM! download 110MB before it will even install, and then it takes an hour to actually install, not happy with Sony about this one.

So, all in all, I would highly recommend this gaming platform as it is so easy to use, great graphics and very well made console. 9/10.

Great choice for a home media hub (as well as a console, obviously!)

I've always liked buying refurbs - you know it's going to work, as it's been fully tested and anything that's need to be replaced has been, they usually come with a 12 month warranty like a new product, and they're cheaper. Where's the down side.

I'd bought a new 3d TV, and was looking around for a blu-ray to go with it. The PS3 not only does everything that an equivalently priced blu-ray does, it also acts as a media hub, and console too.

Setting up was a breeze - I have my WiFi SSID hidden, and it's always little bit of a chore inputting text without a keyboard (but that's no different to any console when you're just using the controller), but the process is straightforward and clear.

It's detected all my experiments with different DLNA servers from my iMac, and streamed and played happily. Upscaled DVDs and streamed SD films look good. Blu-ray and 3d films look great, and sound great.

Output is via HDMI for HD, AV out for SD and TOSLink for audio. It's got gigabit ethernet for a wired connection and 802.11 b/g (but no 802.11n) for wireless, and comes with a single controller. You'll need a second controller if you're planning on being sociable, and the PS3 Remote will come in handy for easier access to media centre functions - although it's perfectly possible to use the game controller to do so.

As well as connecting via DLNA to ripped films on your own computer, you can also access LoveFilms and videos in the PlayStation Store or VidZone. There are still unexplored corners of the system left for me to rummage around in yet - I've not tried the PlayTV PDR, and I've not got an Eye or a Move yet.

It's very quiet in use - the fan is much quieter than my old XBox 360, and quite discrete. The power supply is internal, so there's no external power brick to find space for.

Overall, I'm delighted. I can't see why you'd want to buy a standalone blu-ray, when you can get PS3, made by the people who basically invented the format that performs as well, but offers much more on top.
