TomTom GO 1005 Live Automotive GPS Receiver

I bought this SNS because I wanted the best on the market and it probably is. The lane guidance is a great new feature and pops up when you're close to your junction exactly as pictured. However, this is generally a motorway feature that won't help you get in the right lane in city driving where there are multiple lanes. I could be wrong but it didn't activate when I was driving in the Greater Manchester area. You don't need a mobile phone connection or traffic receiver to connect to live services, it is built in and has bluetooth technology for making and receiving calls via your mobile.
If you've owned TomTom's before you may be disappointed that there are some things you can't do on this model. For instance, you can't add and remove files like music and pictures from your PC or operate the device on your PC as everything is done from the "my TomTom" webpage or direct to your device.
Another useful feature when you're driving is the voice activated instructions. It works quite well but like all gizmo's with voice activated functions it can be a bit frustrating at times when it doesn't undertstand what you believed were clear instructions and can prove to be slower than typing in the instructions manually.
Reporting map corrections is easier than on older models I've had as you can handle them instantly while you're driving down a road that doesn't exist or a road that's blocked off etc.
All in all it's a superb device and the 5" inch screen's a bonus. I give it top marks.

Very nicely packaged with a simple/intuitive user interface. The traffic intimation appears literally up-to-the-minute accurate.
Take care updating the program/map data though. This can be quite an unreliable process on any but the best broadband connections. With transfers of up to 3GB they can also be quite slow.
TomTom technical support may not be as helpful as you’d like but the web has plenty of information once you start looking.
A great product compromised by an update procedure that demands the very best connection and only restarts from scratch (rather than pick up where it left off).

Screen size excellent and the live options free for the first year are really good my last sat nav was a garmin and was torn between this top of the range tomtom and garmins offering as i had seen some mixed reviews about the tomtom but i think this was down to really early builds and all the early snag points hae been resolved at least mine is doing everything and more than i expected my advice is buy one you will not be disappointed.

The live services are great, the local Google search is fast and accurate. Information is so easy to get at anytime on your journey. Just a tap to find traffic build up and or delay
times or alternate route.
Still the best satnav, Worth the extra for 5 inch screen.

I bought this for a gift for my husband who is a real techno geek. So after hunting around the internet reading reviews, time was ticking and I plumped for this. With baited breath, I gave it to him.

It is not often I get things 110% correct however, this Tom Tom is magical and hubby has done nothing but rave about it. The screen is clear and udates very frequently. He has used it on both short journeys and long ones; to Norwich and Uxbridge - we live in Warrington, it has made a massive difference and he was even home early.

He loves; the warning for all speed camera, the ease to set the thing up, the route/traffic update. Also he enjoys the large screen the ability to search for an address using 'google' - thinks thats awesome!!

His bug bear - well there had to be one! just the battery life - without plugging in only lasts aound 2 hours.

have since bought some accesories; case and mount for car
all in all would defo buy again and a great price
