Editorial Reviews
WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE is an alternately perfect and imperfect if always beautiful adaptation of the Maurice Sendak children’s book
New York Times (11/05/2009)

The novelty of looking at the creatures never wears off, and Jonze uses an inquisitive handheld style that works
Screen International (11/05/2009)

A film for anyone who's ever climbed trees, grazed knees or basked in the comfort of a parent's sympathy as they've pulled you off the ground crying. It'll make your inner child run wild.
Empire

Spike Jonze is just the visionary talent to nurture Sendak's tale of a boy who creates a fantasy world full of wild things that embody his own fears bout the real one.
Rolling Stone

It's a divisive and sometimes difficult film, but if you let it into your heart, you'll end up grateful.
SFX

A poignant dissection of youth with nine-foot furry monsters, gorgeous production design, frenetic camerawork and a playful, wistful score from Karen O. Never mind the little ones. This beauty will have most grown-ups blubbing.
Total Film

Fleet of foot, emotionally attuned to its subject and instinctively faithful to its celebrated source, WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE earns a lot of points for its hand-crafted look.

Odd child fanstasy story with big monsters!

Created: 28/12/09
A weird story. Ive never seen the books or heard about the storys before so I was looking at this from a fresh perspective. A boy who lives with his mom and older sister runs away to a fantasy world occupied by large horned monsters. Rather than eating him he convinces them he is a mighty king and they decide to make him their king to help them unite their community. He gets them to build a huge fort and for while all is well. But the monsters are very disfunctional and argue alot and eventually turn on the boy king and blame him. He then decides to go back home and they all thank him. Thats about it - not really a plot to it or a meaning - its more of one of those films you watch for the sake of watching and dont take anything from. Kids might find the big monsters funny as there are a few falls and spills - I didnt think much of it.

where the wild things are

beautifully made film. It scratches the surface of a child living an extended family and the difficulties he goes through with them. Some parts were quite dark and scary, bearing in mind the age the book is aimed at. Potrays the monsters as very differing characters. I found some parts quite emotional and shed a few tears, as did my son. Bought for 5 year old who loves the book. It's probably a bit 'old' for a child of 5.

Were The Wild Thing Are (DVD)

This is this film of the book that my 3 year old loves. We saw it for the first time through a DVD rental company. My son and I really enjoyed it as it helped to bring the book to life. But my husband that had not read the book was a bit confused and thought it was a rather odd film. Obviously becasue its a film of a book they have had to extend it a lot, but they did it in a fantastic way. If you are able to let your imagination go, and are able to see something through a childs eyes then its a fantastic film.

i absolutly love this film and i'm 18. i think its brilliant for all ages. although the costume characters may be a little scary to the youngers kids, it will soon get over-looked by the great friendship they have with Max.
10/10 for the film, one of my favourites =)
