Recorded at Little Mountain Sound Studio, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and A&M Studios, Los Angeles, California."Livin' On The Edge" won the 1994 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal, and was nominated for Best Rock Song; "Cryin'" was also nominated for Best Rock Song in 1994."Crazy" won the 1995 Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.By 1993, Aerosmith's comeback was in full swing, and GET A GRIP proves that, after soldiering on through drug problems and interpersonal tensions, the band wasn't about to let its new lease on life get away. Most of the material on GET A GRIP is a far cry from the band's celebrated '70s work, both structurally and in terms of production. But while the sound is a bit more panoramic, incorporating more keyboards and a grander, more pop-oriented approach, Steven Tyler and the boys have lost none of their fire here. Tyler's voice may have changed a bit over the years, but what he's lost in sheer lung power he's gained in character, and on the power ballad "Crazy" (one of the biggest hits of the band's career), he demonstrates the passionate poignancy he's capable of. While there are more pop-friendly tunes here than on some of their earlier albums, GET A GRIP does not lack for sheer rocking energy. Songs such as "Livin' on the Edge" are fueled by Joe Perry's distinctive rock-god guitar work, and the Perry-Tyler songwriting team generates both musical sophistication and four-on-the-floor hard rock.

Editorial Reviews
3 Stars - Good - ...For a spirited half-hour or so, Aerosmith pretty much gets over on sheer awe-inspiring technique....
Rolling Stone (05/13/1993)

...you got exhuberance, riffs and all the production money can buy. And you got interludes of weirdness...Sounds like the complete Aerosmith listening experience to me...

3 stars out of 5 - ...Notable for the socially aware 'Livin On The Edge' and 2 syrupy ballads...

Get a Grip - Aerosmith

Created: 25/07/08
Not a big Aerosmith fan (I bought this for my partner who is certainly a Steve Tyler fan:)) I find they got better as time went by. This and pump are probably my fav Aero albums. Consistently good tracks apart from the 'filler' boogie man.
Sleeve art is a bit pink floyd weird. Eat the Rich is a sentiment close to my heart. On this album there's humour, partying rock grooves, social comment...
Production is good but to my taste Aero sound has always been a bit thin even through the best hifis. Musically it's insane to get too critical as, like the Rolling Stones, this is a band you judge by feel and spirit, not technical excellence. God-time boogie I suppose you call it - great for rock discos (bike rallies & such)

Aerosmith - Get A Grip (CD 1993)

In my opinion the best album Aerosmith have made, and possibly the best album anyone has ever made!
Mainly an upbeat rocker, so maybe not for you if you like the slushy balads. This is one to be played LOUD in the car

Aerosmith - Get a Grip (CD 1993)

Although a recording from the early 1990's, there are on this CD, two particular tracks that I wanted, the main one being the title "Crazy". I was delighted to be able to purchase this CD on Ebay at a very reasonable cost and will certainly resort to checking the site again when the need arises.
