Dell Latitude D630 14.1" 2 GHz Laptop PC

Generally pleased with these machines as can be seen by the fact that I've just bought my third. After passing one back to my former employer I was faced with the choice of buying a more modern laptop but they're not nearly as solid or well equipped in terms of the keyboard/mouse/trackpad/nipple​.

I'm running one now with 4GB RAM on WinXP and it performs as well as any I've used, even with memory intensive browsers like Opera with 15+ tabs open and spreadsheets over 40MB in size. I have another in the company with 3GB RAM and Win7 installed and it performs almost as well.

The only gripe would be that they are power hungry. The batteries give about 3hrs when used for the above sort of work but will only last about 2hrs a year later. This is party due to the fact that the machine underside gets pretty warm and even hot if you put it on your lap or a bed.

Battery replacement isn't too much of a problem, I think they're available for £50 or so. Given that you're able to pick up a nearly new one off eBay for about £200-300 these days you're still in pocket as compared to a "new" machine of inferior standing brand new from a retail store.

I was having problems with my old laptop and my son recommended the Dell Latitude (he rates them very highly and has bought quite a few for his place of work). I accepted his recommendation and am very pleased with my purchase. It is working very well and is very compact. I would certainly buy again

I do not have the greatest knowledge of PC's, so even after a little research, this purchase for me was still a bit of a gamble.
No fretting necessary as this laptop does everything i need it to do and much more. Looking at buying another one for my daughter.

These Laptops are fantastic. Very fast with a rugged buisness construction.
THey Handle HD video on youtube well and are excellent with windows 7.They support the aero interface and are quick to respond to mouse clicks in windows.

Combined with a 7200rpm drive the speed of these laptops is almost on par with desktop machines, as they run Core 2 Duo Processors.

I am very happy with mine, they make suitable upgrades to the Centrino Solo line of laptops which seem to also be going cheaply

I bought this machine as it had been pre-owned and had a serial interface. I have had a Dell D620 at work for three years and had been very impressed with its performance and speed. Mine has XP professional loaded and is very quick to start up. Value for money it is hard to beat.
I have several other laptops (Dell & Sony) which are not as quick to boot up, possibly because I bought this one to use in the garage as it has a particularly rugged construction and I have limited the amount of software on it.
