Etta James - Best of [Spectrum] (2000)

This is R&B !!! not the current genre.Great 60's music which will never die.take a look at the play list and you will see "leave your hat on" covered by Tom Jones, make up yor own mind which is the best version .

After seing the movie with Cadillac Records with Beyonce playing Etta James I had to get her album. At Last being one of my all time favourites - it also was a field trip back to my youth and the heady days of soul music. This album does not disappoint - it is the roots to new up and coming bands of the time such as The Rolling Stones with the influence of Muddy Waters et al. A truly wonderful album and I am so glad I finally got round to getting a copy.

Also, if you haven't seen the movie - you are missing out!!

The music of Etta James is a throwback to an earlier era when female jazz and blues singers reigned supreme. Etta's work reminds me of the like of Marie Bradley, Kitty Brown, Alice Carter, Ora Alexander and Baby Bonnie singers from the 20s + 30s not the 50s +60s. It has taken a couple of generations for her work to be appreciated but now the modern day singers are delivering her songs.
This album is a very good taster.

Heard a track on the radio and found a video clip on YouTube which blew me mind.
What a voice.
This CD is full of classic Etta and recreates the fantastic sound perfectly.
