Grundig GUFSDTR500HD 500 GB HD PVR Satellite Receiver

I have Sky since 1989 and it as gone to dear at £18 basic per month, so I have cancelled and got Freesat Box The Grundig or the Goodmads 500 HD with HD Channels are very good no problems so far

This is my second one of these. I bought one a year ago for my holiday home and it works perfectly. Since Sky has put up prices again I stopped mt Multiroom and HD subscription and fitted a second one of these to my main home. The Fan on the back of the recorder can be a tad noisey but not unbearable at all. Records 2 programs at the same time in fact all that Sky + hd does but at no monthly payment. OK we now do not get the Sky movie channels but as I was a Sky subscriber for 20 years I have seen most of the repeats they show and sky is not true hd ie 1080p. this unit outputs in HD quality and even normal channels appear much better. I would recommend it.

Sorry to be the odd one out but I am extremely disappointed with this unit. Software update tended to block and render the unit inoperative. New software has brought no evident improvements. Channel list is frequently empty ! Signal apparently disappears and then reappears with no intervention on the dish or LNB. At times the unit simply ignores the remote control and has to be disconnected from the mains. Help line is worse than useless, the no-brain response being, 'Return to shop where bought'
The fan is noisy 24/24 even when unit is not in use. In short a unit to avoid like the plague, I will be putting mine on E-bay shortly....

Bought as a replacement to using Sky as Sky expensive and fed up with Sky subscription going up each year and now more and more channels becoming available on Freesat uch better option for us. We need Sat TV as reception in our area otherwise is variable and can be very poor. Not as easy and logical to navigate round initially after being used to ease of use of Sky, but soon get used to it. Pleased with choice and now no monthly subscription to pay and box will pay for itself in a year. Also added benefit that can record programes and also watch and record another channel at same time.

Excellent product, easy to install, only problem was not getting signal2 come up for ages, then it did a 20minute software update and it all now works! Saves money on paying subscription fees!!
I purchased it because of the good name of Grundig. I once owned a reel to reel tape recorder, very heavy with green light for level indicator! It was built to last! And it did!!
