CLIFF RICHARD &THE SHADOWS REUNITED
Although you can buy the original recordings on CD, the Cliff and Shadows Reunited CD is worth a listen as Cliff and the Shadows have been back in the studio to re-record some of their old hits.
This is a good album and the tracks are well done, Cliff and the Shadows are a great combination when they work together and this album certainly is no 'contractual obligation re-hash of old hits,' no this is a great re-working of their original hits with new arrangements and sounds and a must for any Clif and Shadows fan.
Particularly for guitar fans, Hank Marvin's more recent guitar sound comes to the fore on these recordings and although you'll recognise much of his style and solos from old, there are some nice new twists and turns to learn to play on this CD, in concert too I am sure there will be some interesting fretwork to be seen on their live shows.
it is amazing after 50 years that this group is still able to make great music and people are willing to come and see and enjoy it, it says a lot about their ability, appeal and musicianship.
I have been a fan of their music for many years and I am glad to see they are still making good music whilst many others in the pop world are just vague memories.
So get a copy of this CD it's very good!!
Kings of leon - Only by the Night (cd 2008) GOOD ALBUM
This is probably my most anticipated album of 2008. 'Because of the Times' sent Kings of Leon deservedly into the big league and is one of my albums of the decade so far, and after seeing them storm through their Glastonbury set this year, they really were looking like a world beating band. I even got to hear Crawl and Manhatten during their set and knew that if the rest of the album lived up to these two songs it was going to be something very special indeed.
Unfortunately the rest of the album doesn't quite live up to this, but its still a corker. If you listen to 'Youth and Young Manhood' you would think that they had been written by two seperate bands. Gone is the Rolling Stone-esque grooves of their first two outings, and in comes the stadium filling epics.
They do rock out on a couple of songs, 'Crawl' and 'Sex is on Fire' have plenty of energy, however this is about as uptempo as the album gets, the rest is about atmosphere, big choruses and epic guitars. Unfortuntately it seems they might have forgotten how young they still are and are affraid to let it all hang out, because thats what Kings do best. They are a pure rock'n'roll band. No frills. If their next album returns to a more rockier feel then this album will be a gem amongst their back catalogue, however if they stick with this direction they will lose a lot of fans.
Basically, the songs are amazing, the production is sublime, the musicianship is awesome, the album is brilliantly crafted, but it ain't the Kings of Leon we all have come to know and love.

Kings of leon back but with a smaller bang
Yes we've all heard sex on fire and use somebody.... etc
Kings of Leon are back and with a long awaited album, sadly they failed to be as impressive as before losing their raw energy for a more open felt CD for everyone to listen to.
It’s embarrassing when your mum or dad knows the same songs you listen to let alone know the band.
Great album but lacking the energy, passion and raw talent they had a few years back, yet I still am a dedicated fan and do like their songs but I am disappointed in them, by giving into being a generic run of the mill band that you me or any body can listen to

After hearing "Sex On Fire" about a million times, I decided to buy Only By The Night, and it hasn't been off my car (and house) cd player since. How I didn't discover Kings of Leon before, I don't know. It is exactly my taste in music, in my opinion a cross between early Nirvana and U2, with a twang. Apart from the obvious hits of "Sex On Fire" and "Use Somebody", I find "Be Somebody" and "Closer" to also be my favourites, and so far haven't skipped a track. I will be buying their back catalogue, and highly recommend this album. Well worth the purchase!!
