Description
The Quad 33 Phono Pre-Amplifier has a signal to noise ratio of 80 dB with a Phono amplifier. Input sensitivity measures at 250 mV with 0.5V output. A solid-state offering, this Quad Pre-Amplifier has superior push switches to switch input sources. Each source pass through volume control and tone filters before the Quad Phono Pre-Amplifier lets the sound pass to the power amplifier. The sound output on the Quad Phono Pre-Amplifier does not hum, sound tinny, or sound distorted. The phono, or disc input, section of the Quad Pre-Amplifier has a 4-way selector card in the rear that permits input sensitivity to be adjusted accordingly. Beyond changing the input source, the user can adjust the bass, treble, and slope of the audio output on the Quad Phono Pre-Amplifier. The Quad 33 Phono Pre-Amplifier is modular; thus the internal boards can be upgraded and altered to entirely bypass any tone filters.

The Quad 33 is over forty years of age now (2011) but many units are still going strong. They offer great flexibility for use with different recording devices and phono pickups and also great scope for upgrades. Their tone controls and filters are STILL extremely useful and work very well. All this because, as with many Quad units, their basic design is excellent and although they are beginning to show their age, obviously, they still offer excellent value for many second hand. Highly recommended.
