A Gem from Roberts
Created: 01/03/10
This little radio is quite an achievement with low power DAB with the usual classy Roberts tone that is easy on the ear at the same time being punchy enough to overcome shower without sounding harsh. Located on my southwest facing bathroom windowsill, it has worked perfectly throughout the winter without needing mains charging. (Estimated daily use of 15 minutes/day). We live in a marginal DAB reception area and this unit is much less prone to signal drop out than the other slightly older DAB radios we own. It has a compact solid feel. If, after a few years, the battery pack gets tired it is easily replaced.

(This review is for the solarDAB 2 - the picture incorrectly shows the original solarDAB)
I bought this radio as I wanted a radio to go in a spare room which gets a fair deal of sunlight on one of the windowsills.
So far the radio has operated exactly as I want it to. I only listen to a few particular stations, so being able to set those as favourite stations really helps, as you don't have to cycle through them all then. It's quite loud, and has a deep 'rounded' sound, not tinny at all.
Having only used the radio for a few days I can't comment on the solar aspect of the radio, but it is the main reason I bought it. I like products that 'pay for themselves' as it were, and I especially like the idea of never having to replace the batteries. There is a little light which glows brighter the more sunlight the radio recieves, which is a nice touch, as it helps you put the radio in the best position.
Overall you just have to weigh up whether having the solar nature of the radio is worth the initial more expensive cost. For me it is.

Roberts solar DAB radio

Light in weight, saves on batteries which was main issue.
Full price was too much for me,so it was a good saving on ebay
I like to be outdoors in garden, diy etc so it is just what I wanted.
Only weakness of radio is doesn't last that long out of sunlight even when fully charged up

Cracking Little DAB!

This DAB does exactly what it says it does.
I've only had to plug in into the mains once since i've bought it, and that was the initial charge. It picks up a good range of stations, and they are all clear. The radio is easy to use, and is fairly robust.
I'd buy this again without a doubt!
