Sennheiser PX100s - great little folding headphones.

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I have owned many pairs of headphones over the years, and to my mind these tough little folding Sennheisers are about the best you can get without spending huge amounts of money on full sized ones. Open back on-the-ear designs will always outperform closed back ones, but it does mean that the sound will leak out of them if you are on the train etc, and they won't block out external noises (so use ear-buds instead). However, the PX100s are very well made with replaceable foam pads on the earpieces, and are extremely comfortable to wear - unlike their great rivals, the Koss PortaPros with their weird headband. The frequency range is remarkably full and extended although they do need running in for a few days from new to get the best from them. Now superseded by the PX100 mark 2s, either pair are more than a match for far more expensive sets - a quick search on-line will confirm this from the techie mags' reviews. So, fold them up and keep in a bag, or use them with the hifi system at home, they really do produce superb sound quality.

ingenious folding headphones with great sound

The Sennheiser PX100's are great as they come with a carry case that they fold into. They are also "full size" yet light enough to take travelling as an alternative to the in-ear type.

Sound quality is great with a good frequency range from those booning bass notes right up to Nelly Furtado type squeaks.

You can wear them all day with no discomfort at all.

A really great pair of headphones that are highly recommended.

Best Overall quality budget replacement mp3 headphones

Created: 12/02/08
I bought the Px100 headphones after buying a pair of Sennheiser PX200's which my girlfriend liked so much I gave them to her. I also own a pair of Sennheiser EH150's- All bought within the last four weeks. The PX 100's have foam on ear pads, a light airy feel and sound with good bass and are comfortable worn for long periods. They also came in a great hard plastic box. I use mine in the gym with either my Walkman or my Zen stone. Totally recommended. The only downside is the open backed design means other people get bugged by the annoying sounds you are listening too and they let outside sound in so you have to turn them up louder in noisy places. Fine in a noisy gym but not in the library. Best overall of the Three.

The PX 200's have comfortable leather on ear pads and a closed back. They have a much punchier bass sound than the PX100 and the EH150. They are comfortable but they fall short of the PX100 for long use comfort - although I acknowledge this is subjective. They are closed backed so there is not as much sound leakage as the PX100. Overall worst of the three. Again I use them with my MP3 players which drive them perfectly. I would still recommend these for people who want closed backed headphones but are reluctant to wear clunky great over-ear jobs.

The EH150's are over ear design - so the completely cover your ears knocking out a lot more of the environmental noise than the PX100's and the Px200's. You need small ears though to fit inside these and I reckon anyone wanting these should try them on. I use these in the gym with my mp3 players and although I feel a bit stupid because they are big and obvious they are driven easily by both mp3 players and they are light, comfortable to wear and do not some off in the gym. They certainly have the best overall listening quality of the three. They are significantly more expensive than the others but you can still get them for under £30.00.

Sennheiser PX 100 Headphones

Quietly Sennheiser still dominate the top end consumer & professional headphone market. The PX 100 is aimes squarely at those iPod, iPhone, MP3 users who want exceptional sound reproduction in a lightweight, but very strong, headset.
The folding mechanism is very useful as it enables the headphones to be kept in the compartment of camera bags, computer bags & handbags, the storage bag supplied by Sennheiser ensures that they headset and cable do not get tangled or dirty.
A far more comfortable & satisfactory headphone than the in-the-ear cheapos found elsewhere.
10 out of 10 to Sennheiser

Latest 'phones, Sennheiser PX100

Created: 07/12/07
After wearing ear buds for an hour or so, I find them uncomfortable. They make my ears burn, a very uncomfortable sensation. I own a few pairs of different makes.
I decided that resting on the ear 'phones would be suitable having owned both on the ear and round the ear 'phones. Did a lot of research, read a lot of reviews and eventually settled on these sennheiser for design and weight. Most of the reviews gave them as'heavy on bass'. Have run into this comment before and believe its a failing of the reviewers Hi fi to faithfully reproduce Bass. Takes pretty smart speakers to match a good pair of 'phones.
They are doing a comparison after all. These 'phones go down to 15 c/s. Having bought them I find the sound excellent, leaving the equaliser on normal (flat setting) produces a very pleasant sound. I agree with others that the packaging is superb... just like a pair of glasses and although they are open back I personally have never had a complaint about sound bleed out.
Suit me and yes the bass is a little more responsive but as I said the overall sound is good.
My neighbour has been listening with them and has decided to buy a pair too.
I think RRP is about £65, I paid 1/3rd of that off of ebay... can afford not to like them and try something else.
Hope this helps.
