It's difficult to improve on the SL-1200 MkII Turntable.

I've owned one of these turntables for many years and it still performs perfectly. It is totally devoid of hum, rumble, wow and flutter, and speed variations.
My other turntable is a Thorens TD124 MkII with SME 3009 Series II pickup, which I bought from new around 1968. Whilst the sheer engineering excellence of the Thorens/SME instils in one a feeling of awe, the performance of the modern Technics SL-1200 Mk2 is without doubt, far superior in every respect, and engineering wise I feel that it is just as good, though perhaps not quite as 'pretty'. I will never part with it.
I use it for Hi-Fi in my home and would appreciate a 78rpm speed. Shouldn't be too difficult to obtain with the electronic speed control used?
incidentally, 'End of record distortion' is produced by the change in the correct angle of the stylus to the groove, due the finite length of the arm and especially the inability of most cartridges to accurately track the inner grooves of records, especially at high levels of modulation.

Technics is the best brand for turntable in the world. Like Ferrari/Lamborghini for cars. Very accurate pitch control, torque etc...

No disapointments with this player and I have not even got the decent cart I've ordered yet. Truely an engineering great. No inner groove distortion that I can hear.
Update.
I have used this table for well over a year now. On my second stylus.
I chose the audio technica at-440 mla cart to pair with this table.
After over a thousand listening hours I can honestly say i don't ever want to replace this table.
I listen to many kinds of music and this handles everything that's played on it.
This and the Cyrus 2 with the psx are my best eBay buys. Oh I forgot the cart, that's awesome too!
Stero separation from my speakers that you only normally hear with headphones.
Put good components with this deck and set it up properly you will have much pleasure from its use.

The 1210 is The Turntable. Heavy, solid like a war tank. Easy to set up, accurate speed of LPs from start to the end without any wow and flutter
