No good as freesat PVR

Created: 23/02/11
I wanted it solely for free HD channels and as a bonus the extra channels not available via non sky freesat boxes.
The hard drives will not work without subscription to sky - so not a useable PVR without forking out £20+ a month to Mr Murdoch.

also worth noteing that a sky freeview card and at least 2 phone calls to sky are required to ensure you get all freesat channels esp' Ch5 fiver etc.

Sky is a rip off

Sky via component video

Created: 06/12/10
Some older flat screen tvs cannot use hdmi, because of the 25hz frame rate used by Sky.

These Thomson boxes have component video via phono connectors, and most tvs will work via this method.

However most of these boxes are quite old, and their power supplies can fail, so make sure you get a good one.

The best box?

Not a bad machine at all. It has component output, which makes it useful for TVs without HDMI. This machine is known for power supply problems from new, but this can be effectively repaired by using a kit from SatCure. Personally, I think this box offers a better picture than other Sky boxes ( I have owned Thomson/Pace/Amstrad).

Sky + HD 300gb BOX

Created: 09/08/10
Hi! Welome to a quick review of the Thomson sky + Hd box 300gb. I only have a sky dish without subscription, & to use this box to it's full potential you need to subscribe to sky & have the relevant splitter aerial box to be able to use the 300gb recording hard drive.
I actually wanted it for recording certain sky channels, film 4 etc,as I can't get this on freeview at the moment. I only gained a few extra HD channels, & in the end I stuck with my original box.
