I bought this to repair a Packard-Bell netbook, and it has performed flawlessly. Access speeds etc. are about what you'd expect from a drive that's now a couple of years old, but as far as I know no new 1.8" designs are being developed, you have to take what you can get. It's very quiet, not surprising from a drive originally intended for devices like the iPod. Capacity is a little limited, though a full Linux install plus some applications shouldn't use more than a quarter of the space. Again, this is a general problem with 1.8" drives, they lack the capacity of the larger formats.
About my only criticism is that the zero insertion force connection is actually quite difficult to get right, but that's more a criticism of ZIF drive connectors in general than this drive in particular.
The bottom line, if you need a drive of this type this is certainly one to consider.
