1. Extend the Life of Your Nail Polish Or Mani

If you've forked out on an upmarket nail polish or even treated yourself to a manicure, you'll want to make sure it lasts as long as possible.

A manicure should stay chip-free for around five days, and a bottle of nail polish up to two years if you store it properly.

Simply pop a few drops of acetone nail polish remover into polish that's gone gloopy, or add a layer of top coat to your mani every day to keep it looking fresher for longer.

2. Use a Spoon To Curl Your Lashes

Eyelash curlers can be expensive, not to mention fiddly but there is an easier and far cheaper way to give those lashes some serious lift.

Simply take a spoon from the kitchen, heat in a mug of warm water, press the curved side over your eyelid and gently hold your lashes against the edge of the spoon for ten seconds. A little mascara and you're good to go!

3. Get Two Eyeliners for the Price of One

Why spend double on a gel and a kohl eyeliner when you could buy one that does both jobs instead?

It couldn't be easier to turn a simple pencil eyeliner into a gel liner for a smudged, sultry look.

Just grab a lighter and your favourite kohl pencil and hold it under the flame for one second. Let it cool (about 15 seconds should do the trick), then watch the consistency change. Finally, glide on your new gel liner for a smudgier finish.

4. Fix Broken Make-up In an Instant

We all know the pain of dropping your favourite powder, bronzer or blusher - it's devastating to say the least.

But what if we told you that instead of tossing it in the bin and forking out for a new one, you could fix it instead?

Pour a little isopropyl alcohol (it's tricky to find but there's lots on eBay) into the powder you want to fix, press with a spoon and let it dry overnight. You’ll have shiny new make-up by morning.

5. Breathe Life Back Into Dry Mascara

If you didn't already know that pumping your mascara is bad for it then stop what you're doing, because forcing air inside means it'll dry out and get clumpy much quicker.

To save it from flagging, popping it into a cup of warm water for a few minutes will help it become much easier to apply again.

No time to wait? Add four of five eye drops, stir with the wand and you're done!

6. Let Vaseline Sort Just About Everything

Thought that pot of Vaseline was strictly for softening lips? Think again.

There's a whole host of beauty hacks hiding in a tub of petroleum jelly, making it just about the cheapest beauty must-have around!

Use it as a highlighter by dabbing onto your temples and cupid's brow, swipe across eye lids for serious sheen, smooth hair by using it like a serum, use it to remove eye make-up and, last but not least, coat your feet in it before bed for soft toes by morning.

7. Make Your Own Customised Lip Balm

Just when you thought Vaseline couldn't get much handier, wait until you see this next budget-friendly hack.

Using just a dab of petroleum jelly and your favourite eyeshadow or blusher, you can create your very own completely personalised lip balm.

Simply take the loose powder, blend it with a little bit of a Vaseline or other balm on a spoon and dab it onto your lips. Hey presto!

8. Find New Ways To Store Your Beauty Bits

Who needs expensive make-up bags and fancy dressing tables?

Set your beauty buys free from the dark drawer they've been hiding in, and find unique ways to display your most prized make-up possessions.

Nail polish hoarders will love the idea of popping their favourite shades inside a clear glass biscuit or sweet jar, while perfume addicts will enjoy seeing their pretty bottles displayed on a cake stand. Genius!

9. Banish Eye Bags With Baking Soda

The only thing worse than a bad night's sleep is the tell-tale dark circles and bags that appear under your eyes the next day. But did you know one of your kitchen cupboard staples could be the answer?

Yes, baking soda not only helps all manner of cooking dilemmas, but it also diminishes the appearance of bags and under-eye circles.

To try it yourself, mix baking soda and a small amount of water to form a paste, allow to dry under your eyes for 5-10 minutes, then wipe it away with a damp cloth.

Snapped your favourite lipstick? Step away from the bin!

Fixing a lipstick that's broken is surprisingly simple thanks to this quick and easy hack. Just melt the two ends where they meet with a lighter and carefully fuse them back together (be careful though!) and you won't have to fork out for a replacement.
