1.) Lovely Linens (Plus Extra Blankets & Pillows)

Splurge on a nice  set of sheets to ensure a cosy night's rest for your guests. Since everyone has a different pillow preference, give each person a firm and soft pillow to choose from. Another blanket at the foot is a welcome addition if the room gets chilly at night.

2.) Reading Material

If insomnia strikes or if your guest wakes up early and wants to linger in bed until she hears you stirring, she'll likely enjoy having reading material at hand. Put a stack of magazines on the bedside table (they don't have to be the latest issues), along with a pretty  coffee table book to flip through, and the most recent page-turner you couldn't put down.

3.) A Way to Block Noise

You've probably grown accustom to your house settling at night, but your guest isn't used to the small noises and creaks it makes. Give her the option of a white noise with a  fan or a noise machine. Have a couple staying with you? Earplugs ensure relationship bliss if someone starts to snore!

4.) A Catchall Tray

Give your guests a place to store their wallets, keys, jewellery, and any other small items on your dresser. A  tray keeps everything corralled so nothing rolls away.

5.) Travel-Size Toiletries

Keep a pretty basket or glass jar filled with travel size toiletries of commonly forgotten items like toothpaste, floss, moisturiser and face wash. Add a few feminine products and over-the-counter medications to save your guests any embarrassing situations!

6.) A Pair of Cosy Socks

Give your guests a pair of cosy socks they can wear around the house in place of slippers. Tie a ribbon around them and leave them on the bed (perhaps with box of local chocolate) for a fun welcome gift.

7.) Tissues

Sometimes the guest room is overlooked when you're stocking the house with paper products! Be sure there's a bin available as well.

9.) Mini Torch

For night time trips to the bathroom, a mini  torch is a must-have. Your guests aren't as familiar with your house as you are -- especially at night -- and a torch helps them find their way without stumbling.

10.) Luggage Racks

Even if you have ample dressing table and wardrobe space for your guests to unpack, there's a chance they'll prefer to keep their items stowed away. A luggage rack keeps their suitcases off the floor and easier to access. (Purchase two if you plan to host couples.)

11.) Power For Devices

Given how plugged in we are these days, access to power is just as important as having a bed to sleep on! Make sure your room is arranged to make the plug sockets accessible.  An extension lead ensures your guests can plug in all of their devices at once.
Put extra chargers on the nightstand if you have them.

12.) Towels

Many guests feel uncomfortable digging through their host’s linen cupboard to find towels. Put a set (bath sheet, face towel, and wash cloth) in the guest room for each person. Use different colours for each set so everyone can easily identify their towels.
