Celebrating with family and friends:

These days I am looking for ways to make New Year's extra special for our family and last year we hosted a little party at our house.  I put together some fun New Year's celebration treats and we ordered in from our favourite restaurant.  Here are some ideas if you are looking to keep it low key this year.

Create a New Year's Eve Party Tray

Last year we were sent some party hats and masks to help bring in the New Year.  So I created this fun and colourful tray.  Some ideas for creating your tray this year include:
Silver or  Pewter Tray
Party Hats
New Year Masks
Streamers
Noise Makers
Balloons
Tablecloth (the more glitter the better!)
Bubbles
Sweet Glass Jars
Coloured Bulbs - I opted to go with silver and blues.  But gold and whites also remind me of New Year's celebrations!

Set the stage with a pretty and simple tablecloth.  I have a white one that has silver thread running through it that I use throughout the Christmas holidays.  Next, set out your silver tray and fill it with your New Year's celebration goodies.

DIY Photo Props

We made this for a party last year and have used them on several occasions.  It just takes some  paper straws, download your favourite photo prop and cut it out and glue it with a cardboard in the back onto the straw.  I also found some silly moustaches online and used those as well.   You can find more New Year's Party supplies  here.

Board Games for Everyone!

Each person in our family picked out their  favourite board game and we drew numbers to see which one we played.  If you start early you can play a couple but we had enough time (and energy) to play one.  I love Operation and the game of LIFE is always a popular game for the family. What are some of your family's favourite games to play?

Order Your Favourite Take Away

We ordered a nice dinner from our favourite Italian restaurant and set out nice plates, silverware, glassware and some pretty cloth napkins.  This is a great time to bring out the good chinaware if you have it.  I used my favourite Jonathan Adler white swan napkin holders and placed the New Year's Tray with some balloons to make it more festive.  Have fun with your home celebration!  This is a special time to share with your crew!

Create a Time Capsule

This is a really fun activity for the kids.   Just use a small box you might already have lying around or you can find a huge selection of various sizes  here.   Either make or download (google New Year's Time Capsule downloads) a free pdf to put around the box.  Have them fill out a short questionnaire and ask them things like what is their favourite meal, favourite sport, favourite athlete, etc.  Put this letter and any little trinkets that represent the past year into the box. Maybe a ticket stub from a football game or film?  Then put it aside in a safe place to be opened the following New Year's Eve.

Toast the New Year together

We celebrated with a little champagne for my husband and I and milk and cookies for my daughter.  She loved that she could participate in our toasting in the New Year with a yummy treat.  We used one of our nice  wine glasses so she felt like one of the big kids and she loved it! You can dip the glass in some warm hot chocolate and then dip the rim in some sprinkles for an even more festive look.

Make a collage

We like to use the Pic Collage app and send out a photo to our friends and family to wish them a Happy New Year.  Hope some of these ideas are ones you can use to help bring in the New Year with your crew!  Enjoy!
