1. Pikachu is the most famous Pokémon

Pikachu is the best-known Pokémon – he’s the one that even your mum will recognise. He was the first Pokémon star, and to this day remains the biggest.

5. Time magazine said so

In 1999, Pikachu ranked second in Time’s famous Person of the Year list. Not bad for a cartoon. The magazine described it as the most beloved animated character since Hello Kitty.

A guide to collecting Pikachu merchandise

The beauty of Pikachu merchandise is that there’s just so much of it to collect. In fact, if you want to join the ranks of the true collectors, you’d better get shopping, because there are people out there who own over 8,000 pieces of Pikachu gear. That includes Pikachu bags, Pikachu toys, balloons, towels… You name it, you can buy it. You can also bag yourself a Pikachu costume, mug, phone case, or a poster for your wall.

Pikachu clothing

There’s plenty of Pikachu clothing available, including Pikachu hats, Pikachu T-shirts and, of course, a Pikachu onesie.

Or how about some Pikachu slippers or sweatshirts? And there’s no shortage of pyjamas, while a Pikachu costume makes a fun and original outfit for a fancy-dress party.

Pikachu trading cards

The craze for collecting Pokémon cards started back in the 90s and continues to this day.

Nowadays there are several types of cards available, so if you’re going to get involved, you’ll need to decide which kind you’re going to collect. Older cards are rarer and therefore harder to come by, but can make for a more interesting collection.

In any case, you’ll find that all sorts of unusual and imported cards crop up on eBay, such as rare Pokemon cards and limited-edition sets from Japan.

Pikachu manga

Pickachu has appeared in manga series, as well as TV shows and movies. Close observers will notice that the manga and the anima often aren’t the same – characters behave in unusual ways, and the stories are different. It’s fun to take a look at both and compare.

The first Pokémon manga to be translated into English was the Electric Tale of Pikachu which you can still get hold of now. You’ll also find plenty of other Pikachu manga in perfect condition.

Either way, you’ll find that collecting Pikachu merchandise makes for a rewarding hobby, as there’s simply so much of it to enjoy.
