Saving money is essential to growing your personal wealth, but it can sometimes be hard to stretch a payslip enough to allow for savings. If you can’t find a way to put money aside on what you’re already bringing in, you have to find another way. Either make more money or find opportunities to save. Once you find money saving opportunities, you can take the difference between what you spent and what you would have spent and put that money into a savings account. You’ll find your savings growing faster than you expect.
Here are a few incredibly simple ways to get you started. None of them will change your life on their own, but added up over time, they will get you moving in the right direction.

1. Shop Smarter

Sign up for customer rewards programs. Many shops offer a rewards program for shopping. These cards usually offer a variety of discounts, coupons and even cash back. I find this to be an easy way to save money for holiday spending.
At the supermarket, buy what you would normally buy, purchase a different brand if it’s on sale, then use your rewards card at the checkout. Take the amount of money you saved and put it aside in a special account. It may only be a few pounds, but over the course of the year, you’ll be able to save hundreds of pounds that you can use towards your holiday shopping list.

2. Master the 30 Day Rule

Impulse buying is the #1 way that people spend money and don’t know where it went. Avoid impulse buys by waiting 30 days to make a purchase. If you still want it, by all means, go back for it. Often times, you’ll find that the urge to make that purchase has passed.
Making a budget and sticking with it is a good way to get started here. You'll have to make room in your monthly budget for any non-planned purchases, and evaluate if the impulse item is something you really want or need before you shell out for it.

3. Eat At Home

Avoid fast food. One of the areas that I struggle with is planning ahead for meals. Because I have failed to plan, I often end up going through the drive through, which is equivalent to an impulse buy, but for food!
Simple, healthy recipes are not only better for you, they are less expensive. You can often make the equivalent of 3 or 4 meals for the same price as purchasing one fast food meal. Just one hour of preparation over the weekend can provide lots of cheap and easy dinner and snack options for the following week.
Make a list of the food items you usually order at a fast food restaurant, and then put the ingredients on your food shopping list. Use your favourite fast food as meal inspiration for cooking at home. Most fast food items are easy enough to re-create in your home kitchen.

Tip: Fast Food Gadgets for Your Kitchen:

Over the years, I have purchased a few small appliances for my kitchen that help me avoid fast food. These gadgets help me prepare home-cooked meals fast:

Instant Pot

The  Instant Pot is an electric pressure cooker that can cook a large cut of meat in a fraction of the time as a slow-cooker. I can make a quick and easy home-cooked meal in about an hour.
The Instant Pot also takes the place of many other kitchen gadgets, as it functions as a rice cooker, slow cooker, roaster, yogurt maker, and more.

Rapid Egg Cooker

A rapid egg cooker is a small gadget that makes it very easy to quickly cook hard-boiled eggs, poached eggs, omelettes, and more. You basically just pop the eggs into the gadget and they are ready about 15 minutes later.
Cook up some hard-boiled eggs for an easy take-along lunch or snack.
If you hate peeling eggs, try an  egg peeling gadget for quick and easy shell removal.

4. Stick To the Shopping List

Make a list before you go shopping and stick to it. Shopping only for what is on your list is a great way to avoid impulse buys. Creating your shopping list in advance will help save you from buying things you don’t need or already have.
Put the money you save shopping from a list straight into your savings account.

5. Put Your Old Stuff To Work

Clean out your wardrobe. Clear out anything and everything from your wardrobe that you no longer wear or use. Sell them at a car boot sale or on eBay. Take whatever money you earn and either put it into a savings account or invest it in something that will bring in more money like a small side-business.

Tip: Get Help With Organising

Many people have gotten help with the monumental task of organising and de-cluttering from this book,  The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. If de-cluttering stresses you out (like it does me), this book might help you relax and approach organising with joy and calmness.

6. Save Money On Gifting

There are so many occasions for gift-giving in modern life: children's birthday parties, family anniversaries, weddings, and the list goes on. Instead of spending a large chunk of money on gifts, consider making your own gifts. You can still give thoughtful gifts on a budget by making your own homemade gifts. Food mixes, baked goods,  bath & body products, soap, jewellery and many other things can be made easily and inexpensively.
Don't forget to bank the money you save on giving homemade gifts.

7. Have a Fun Night In

Date night is essential, and so is hanging out with friends, but you don't have to dip into your savings to have a great time.
Have friends over instead of going out. Going out frequently can really put a dent in your budget. It’s less expensive to stay in and come up with your own entertainment. Plan a game night or movie night. Ask everyone to bring a dish to share so you can all share the expenses equally and save money.
