I have two adorable cats and want to pet every dog that I see on the street—what can I say? I’m an animal lover. They are more than our companions—creature creations make for great addition to our kitchens, too. From cookie jars to plates to utensils, an ordinary object is made more whimsical when they’re an animal decorating its surface.
I’m not one to cloak my whole kitchen in cheetah and zebra print. Instead, I work in objects that incorporate animal portraits into their surface design, or are everyday things reimagined as creatures—like this clever  “Piranha” pizza cutter. It reimagines a menacing fish into a helpful pie slicer!

1. Keeping Your Cookies Safe

Cookie jars are an obvious and easy way to incorporate an animal into your kitchen. They double as sculptures, adding art to your space. Plus, opaque cookie jars, like this  Pedigree Spaniel, will keep the sweets out of sight and out of mind.

2. On Illustrative Plating

Matching China patterns are great, but some of my favourite plates don't match any of my other ceramic ware—they're illustrative and cheerful, celebrating colour and artistry.   Cornelia O'Donovan has produced painted plates that are whimsical depictions of the animal kingdom. They work for everyday use or special occasions.

7. Celebrate Animals on a Tea Towel

Tea Towels are a classic kitchen item known for their bright and colourful illustrations, like  this pair of birds. You can never have too many—so for your next tea towel, go for an animal.

When accessorising with animals, remember to be yourself. Maybe you’ll want to stick with one type of creature, like chickens, and buy things that only feature  chickens. Or, you’ll want to mix things up and include several types of animals.
Think about style of artwork, too. Perhaps you’ll want a vintage, folksy approach to the animals, or maybe minimalist and modern aesthetic. Regardless of your preference, the key to having a happy home is decorating your bliss.
